[TC] Five Reasons The PSP2 Won’t Succeed

Sony has announced the PSP2 (temporarily named the “Next Generation Portableâ€), perhaps the final boss of handheld consoles. It’s far more powerful than its destined competitor, Nintendo’s 3DS, and incorporates social and locational data, 3G, a monster 5″ OLED screen, and a number of other features detailed here. It is to be one of the linchpin platforms for the world’s most recognizable entertainment electronics company, a stomping ground for new games, media, and services. And I think it’s going to go down in flames.

According to an article I just read on Kotaku, the PSP2 (NGP) will come in two forms. One with 3G and one without 3G.

The article writer probablyis just plain bad at writing articles (I'd like to say 'suck' but then I'd probably get flagged again by a certain moderater who thinks that words like this are rarely found in public).

The PSP2 will probably have (at least I hope so) at least the same success as the PSP, which was a moderate and stable success over the years for sony. This will only be the case when the price is right though.

I hope it is though because props to sony to actually go so far as cramming all that tech into one device, while others would prefer using lesser tech and get more money out of sales of the device then sony will.

It's also good to see them driving up tech levels in small devices, this will keep the technology level on the mobile gaming platform going up.

....How is this news?

And I wouldn't source any site that spews memes from 4chan as a reference.

The article is basically saying this:

Would you rather spend 100 hours playing CoD on a PS3 or a PSP2?

That is Sony's problem. DS/iOS/Android have a huge competitive advantage over the mobile market. Sony's features are competing against full-fledged consoles/PC's.

Opinion articles aren't news. Moved.

Gotta love them opinion articles.

Pretty much trolling without being flamed.

I have to say. I see the authors point. One thing Sony needs to learn fast is, it isn't all about whats under the hood anymore, but more about innovation. I dunno, time will tell and we still don't know enough about it I suppose, nor do we know how the 3DS will turn out either but im sure it will be a instant hit. Lately, Nintendo is on their game. It's not about Horsepower any more folks.

Totally agree, Sony may be sacrificing some sales with the price but by using all this high tech in a small device will probably nintendo so they step their game up. I love seeing mobile devices being always better and faster.

Sony says '' The NGP has ps3 level graphics '' well that means they should start to think about ps4 because saying a mobile device performs as well as your console looks bad I think. I hope current gen consoles won't last another 3-4 years or something long like that because they are really starting to be old hardware-wise.
