on another note: no offense op, but i dont think you should be messing around with computer parts without reading up further on the basics of computer electronics/maintenance. this is not intended to be an insult. you just need to read up a little bit more before diving into your next build. take this as a lesson learned the hard way. if your not sure about something, always stop and take the time to research it.
This.

Diving into something as potentially complex as building a computer without doing the prior research is folly at best and a recipe for disaster at worst. Please be more careful.

What is onboard RAM? I might be extraordinarily out of the loop but as far as I know that doesn't exist. And NO the DDR1 will not work in a DDR3 slot. It won't even fit.

Take all the RAM out and listen for the indicative beeps a motherboard will make when it is expecting to find some RAM and there's none installed. Other than that, RMA looks to be your best bet.

I agree with AliceInChains, get a buddy to help with your next build. Preferably someone who's been successful in the past. I'd volunteer but I'm not down for the 15 hour flight.

EDIT: According to Google, I'm an idiot. http://www.trustedreviews.com/cpu-me...Onboard-RAM/p1

no, p55 boards dont have onboard ram. and the old ddr1 will not work as all p55 boards take ddr3 only.

i would make 1 last attempt at isolating the problem. this time put the motherboard on cardboard OUT of the case. try just the cpu, 1stick of ram, and a keyboard. NO GRAPHICS. make sure you have your motherboard speaker plugged in. this way you can hear the beeps. it should make a long beep indicating no video card. if it doest this then the board might still be working.

try this and report back to let us know what happens.

thats old though. everything x58/p55 and up has the imc integrated into the cpu. the board you linked was an old p35 board. before the days of integrated memory controllers.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be both my ram and processor
after ra'ing the board and replacing the ram it all worked

i've had a few i7's that just dont like some ram

the ram that wouldnt work with one processor worked fine with another in the same motherboard

never made any real since to me but I actually built a test bed with a gigabyte ud3 motherboard just to figure it all out

once I got the first one working right it was all down hill from there
I did get 2 bad gigabyte boards and 1 bad asus board in the mix also

seems the x58 boards have some issues

Check the chassis ground itself.
Do you get a boot screen bios anything?
Are ALL the parts you installed new?

I know the new boards don't have it, but until now I was under the impression it just didn't exist. I have been thoroughly surprised.

I don't think you guys realize what he meant. The case he had probably had "integrated" standoffs, which are little bumps that rise up wherever the screw holes are for the motherboard. If your case has the little bumps, then there is no need for standoffs. The board is most likely DOA, not shorted.

You speak a lot of sense... if the case does have integrated standoffs, disregard my diagnosis.

agreed...I read through this whole thread and was thinking this the whole time...

if it is true, then chances are that it's not fried. He said he felt a shock from the outside of the PSU when he touched it...I think the PSU was most likely not providing enough amperage for the board/processor and everything else, and it might have gone bad and/or taken the mobo out. Until he reports back with the gpu test someone suggested and RAM test another person suggested we won't know...

OP: those really are your best bet to try right now...
