Help I want a good Sound System for Under £350

At first I considered the Harmon Kardon SoundSticks III (2.1) because I heard them in store and really liked them. I liked the look of them and i i could have got these for £100.

Then I started looking around and seemed to see a few good reviews for the Logitech Z5500's (5.1) which I could get for £200.

But then I started reading a lot of bad reviews from "self proclaimed" audiophiles.

I want a good system for mainly listening to music and watching movies.

I'm not an expert at this and it's very confusing, I don't know if I want a 5.1 system or 2.1 system, probably can't afford a decent 7.1 system and I don't really need that.

So please your opinions on both of the systems I mentioned and recommendations for better value for money systems

My friend's got a pair of Z5500's and even with onboard sound they sound fantastic. Custom PC have had these on their "elite list" for years now. If you get the logitech's you could pick up an Asus Xonar Essence STX for £147 and change, all for under your £350 budget

how big is your room as there's little point getting 5.1 is a small bedroom. Really. You can get very good value 2.0 / 2.1 stuff for 350 quid, actual decent 'entry level' hi-fi stuff. DO NOT go Logitechs. Don't waste your cash. What's your current soundcard / source?

My room is really small, the only reason i'm considering a 5.1 system is if it turns out be better value, and for taking with me when i move out within next few years. Ok so what 2.1 system should I be looking at?

I am also considering getting a better external sound card for my laptop, any recommendations for that?

After some time researching I got these yesterday, you can get the AV40 and buy a separate Subwoofer, from polk or BIC, w/e fits your budget.
