Massive problems with Palit GeForce 460 Card

Thread Starter
Hi there! I recently bought a Palit GeForce GTX 460 GFX card from a friend of mine, and I have been having massive problems since with the card since. This card likes to lock up HARD during some games (WoW, Rift beta), and just browsing the internet or idling at my desktop. These lockups require a manual restart and then tends to lockup before and after BIOS, and at the Windows 7 login screen.
To deal with these issues, I downloaded MSI Afterburner to help me control the fan speed of the card (which i bumped up to 100% from 40%) and lowered the core clock to roughly 630 from 700 (which is UNDERclocking). This gave me three days of flawless play that I quit enjoyed; however that all ended this morning. I opened up the Rift Beta and began to play some player v. player, and all of a sudden, my monitor went blank, the sound skewed for a few seconds, and my screen went to my desktop. I hit the icon on the bottom bar and went back to playing, shrugging it off. Then it happened again, but instead, it shut my computer off and my monitor wasn't being picked up. I then restarted multiple times and each time the random shutdown was happening with a blank screen.
I took out the card and put in an old one I had lying around that I know doesn't give me issues. I did buy this card from a friend (and the warranty is up, so yeah...), and please don't ask me to ask for a refund because I have, and that didnt go too well. If you need the specs, here's a link to Newegg's product page for it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261077

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and hopefully respond
Because if I can't get this working I might just [Card]

What drivers are you using? I assume it is at stock volts?

Also help us see what else you have by filling in your systems info.

so the other card did not give you any issues?
what was you card before? if it was an ati, did ya use driver sweeper and did a clean install?
is it getting the power it needs? you said you had an old card, which could a could require less power.
fill out your system spec as well please.

This is what I am thinking, when my Palits crash because of overclocking they default back to 2D clocks with no black screen. What sort of power are we working with?

I bought a 600W PSU that is definitely giving it the power it needs.
Here's the power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0supply%20600W

Yeah 600 is gonna be enough. What bios do you have on the card? Could your firind have flashed a different BIOS on it?

What are the default clocks and voltages when you open up Afterburner?

Can we get a screen shot of GPU-Z?

Thread Starter
The defaults for the card were 700 on the core clock, 1800 on the memory, 40% on the fan. I have no idea how to tamper with the BIOS for a GFX card, and I have no idea what a GPU-Z is. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Download GPU-Z from here

It will give us some more info.
