Yes there is. I know where my servers are hosted, its something like $70 per 20amp power drop on top of normal hosting and rack fees.

Also, these chips would only work for certain uses I imagine. I can see swapping out the power hungry xeon file backup servers with systems running these cpus. Anything processor intensive wouldn't use these chips anyways.

Its about performance per watt, not just performance. These servers will run 24/7/365 so stability(that means low power) is of the utmost importance.

And what makes you think a 16-core Atom would consume that much power? What are you basing this data on?
Take the newest generation of Intel Atom.
1 Atom E680 core 1.6Ghz
4W TDP. Assume it's around 2.5W for the integer processing/CPU core itself.
16W atom core = 2.5W x16 = ~40W + 2-3W for the graphics, I/O hub, PCI-E lanes and everything else, so that's about 45W; if it's less, I doubt it'd be any less than 35W.

Compare to: 45W Intel XEON E3-1260L. 4 Sandy bridge cores/8 threads at a faster 2.4Ghz on a much better 32nm CMOS, in-order architecture, and with the ~same 45W consumption. Aside from being much more optimized, it supports much more instruction sets.

Though 16-cores would be cool - I think MS should pressure Intel into bringing out a dou-core Atom first. Sure, it has already been announced, ad nauseum, but not one single machine out there has one yet.

Cedar Trail + 16 core atom clusters is awesome.

What do you mean, they have dual core atoms. In fact I have one in my netbook right now, Asus 1201n. Intel Atom 330, look it up. They have a few different dual core atoms right now.
