Mb or mbp?

Thread Starter
Not looking to get bashed, I like hardware benefits of mac, ecc memory and unix kernal, etc etc

Working towards becoming unix system admin

Thoughts? I'm used to 4gb memory therfore mbp over mb, plus I like look of mbp as silly as it sounds.

-Office
-Adobe cs4/5 master suite
-Minecraft
-Showcasing websites/artwork to clients in person
-Using to recover files from customers hdd via external ide/sata reader
-use to download/decompress files/folders/drivers for clients machines
-configure networks
-video (sony vegas on ms, mac alternative?)
Multi booting osx, ubuntu, and win xp and/or 7. Might just use vm's for windows clients. Nice to be able to walk clients through stuff over the phone, and easy if I have the specific os to refer to.

I'm willing to pay the premium for laptop reliability.

Wouldn't mind ubuntu, but don't want hassle of office, adobe, and my most recent ubuntu install had worse battery/rar extraction, response to external drives (flash drives/hdds) then a 9yo dell running fresh install of xp. And ibm had c2d and 2gb ram :/

I'm thinking mbp cause its metal, and 4gb memory. 13inch seems small, but usable. 15 would be ideal. Still keeping win7/sig rig.

I just hate the plastic on the white Macbook. For $200, I think the aluminum body is enough to justify the minor price jump. So my vote goes for the pro.

If you can wait I would because a revision is due around June (if that's not too long for you)

I'd always get the macbook pro over the regular macbook. The aluminum looks way nicer and it also has a tempered glass display versus the regular plastic film on the macbook.

I'm asking you all cause ya it looks nicer, slighty better specs, but is it worth it. Honestly I'm hating windows lately, just getting fed up. Laptop and sig rig have mixed funcionality and I'm ready for change. Laptop isn't used for gaming so ill keep sig rig, and use mbp for everything else. Hook up sig rig monitor too.

Also, I've always hated macs, till a unix engineer explained to me the pros vs cons mac vs pc

If you are using this for video/imaging and will be showcasing work on it, the MBP will serve you better.

It depends on your level of use though. Video and Imaging can REALLY benefit from extra resources if you are rendering a lot, or working with lots of effects or layers in Adobe CS apps.

I vote for the Macbook Pro, not only you get the better aluminium finishing, you also get the illuminating keyboard, the firewire 400/800 port and the SD card slot. Not to mention the 4GB that it comes with. Switch out the hard drive to a 640gb and you're good to go =D
