Cooling Solutions pls? I don't like 45c Idle

Hi!

---Yes, I has a Water cooler---

6 months ago I got a i7-930 and a P6T-SE mobo. And since this is my first computer with enough power and cooling system to Overclock it, I have been trying my first attempts.

I like that I can overclock my 930 at pretty low voltages and have good stability.
BUT
My system seems to have a high idle temp (high for me anyway!!) at about 42c NOT overclocked and in default 2.8Ghz)... raise only to 45c Idle OC'd to 3.5Ghz

They warm up to around ~83c under full load for about 1 Hour+ In either mode. only about ~3c difference.
(why 42c in default?!)

I find it either really odd or really good that my cpu doesn't have much of a heat difference from auto and OC, and I don't know what to make of that.

I have re-seated my watercooler; no change.

I have a 510LC Watercooler from ASETEK (120mm), and like 4 ventilation fans inside the box. (x2 Spot coolers, 1 exhaust fan, 2 case fans)

I am wanting to see the idle temps around 32c

Diagnosis Time

Can someone give me some better CPU Cooling Solutions? preferably not a 3+ piece water cooler assembly? (unless they're THEEE Best)

And also. Are my voltages good for a 3.5?

Ratio 21x169

CPU Voltage 1.2125
DRAM Bus V. 1.64
QPI / DRAM 1.21875
CPU PLL 1.8
ICH / IOH PCIE 1.5

ICH 1.1 and IOH 1.12

Ram is 1600 Max and never seems to even reach its max, (currently like 1286 or so based off the multiplier) I am fine with that.

Could it be that I just have a CPU that likes to run warm?!

Try a different cooler and maybe lower the cpu voltage if possible at all. My Noctua cools much better at that voltage I only hit around 61C tops on load with prime95. Also what are your ambient temps?

I think you just have a crappy cooler.

If you wanted to stick with pseudo-water cooling, the H50/H70s are good choices. However, for the price of the H70, you could get the XSPC Rasa 240 kit. The H50 is considerably cheaper and gets roughly the same temperatures as an H70.

If you wanted to go air cooling, some of the best choices are Noctua DH-14, Silver Arrow, Prolimatech Megahalems, or a Venomous-X.

Oh, Ambient, Yeah. Sorry.. 74F Stable, indoor. (whats that, like 24c?)

I have the same ambients but running on an AMD build.
I idle around 36c, but load won't top 42c. lol

What thermal compound did you use?
Did you wait the curing time before deciding the temps were high?

So have some of the Air-Coolers gotten That good?
Maybe you need to remount everything or cut back on how much thermal compound you used.

I used Dynex Silver Thermal Compound after re-seating the cold plate, I did wait atleast 24 hours before torturing the poor CPU.

Yeah, if you are getting 83c load on water, you messed up something. I don't get nearly that hot on air.

Dynex? Man that stuff from Best Buy is horrible. Go to newegg and order some Cooler Master Thermal Fusion 400.
