I bought a Sandforce SSD recently and tbh didn't find it a huge upgrade from the spinpoint F3, only good thing is as soon as I get to desktop I can click and open something immediately. But I wasn't that impressed. I don't regret buying mine because I haven't got a top of the range PC and I can afford it, but I know in a couple of years a similar drive will be selling for like $50 lol.
If you've got the 200 to spare then that Corsair is a great deal.
If you haven't then save it for the future, because these things are going to go drop in price over time.
How do I check to see if TRIM is enabled?
I really can't think of a better upgrade than an SSD for my sig rig with $200. CPU/Motherboard/RAM isn't an option with this upgrade since I'll be upgrading to a 1366 Core i7 rig hopefully within the next year and a half or so.
I just bought my GPU(MSI GTX460 768MB Twin Frozr II SOC) back in October I believe. I will eventually sell that and upgrade to one with more VRAM since my resolution is 1920x1080, but I'm happy with its performance for now and I'd like to wait until the GTX480 or GTX580 goes down in price. I would just buy another for SLI but I like having a single GPU rig and that would probably stress my current PSU a little too much.
I was going to use this $200 to upgrade my PSU to a 750HX, but I'm looking for an upgrade this time that is a noticeable performance increase. I'll wait to get the 750HX or 850HX for when I upgrade to i7.
For now, I have a Seagate 7200.12 500GB drive for storage. I'm down to a little under 20% of the drive's capacity remaining free. What would be a good drive to go along with this Corsair F120 SSD for storage? Since the 120GB SSD boot drive has plenty of space for me and I'll only ever be using a storage drive for just that, storage....shouldn't I only be concerned with transfer speeds(Read/Write/Copy) and not access times? That leads me to believe I should consider getting a 640GB-1TB+ Western Digital Caviar Black. Unless the Samsung Spinpoints have faster transfer speeds than the Caviar Blacks.
I do have another Seagate 7200.12 500GB drive not being used. With my motherboard(680i SLI) would I be able to use the SSD as my boot drive and also configure RAID0 with the 2 7200.12s, giving me ~1TB for storage?Edited by Dark Volker - 1/29/11 at 2:31pm
