So yeah, I'm not satisfied.

Issue here being that I only have a 300w power supply. I'm trying not to put a lot of money into this system because it isn't really worth it so I don't want a new power supply. I'm just trying to get a decent gaming card that will work with this system.

I'm playing Oblivion and HoN atm. Oblivion gets choppy sometimes but 80-90% of the time it runs fine. SC2 I can run fine on medium settings, just not some of the custom lagfest maps.

So with this power supply in mind, any suggestions with a budget from $50-$90?
Currently looking at HD 4670 or GeForce 9500 GT (both $50 after rebate) but my power supply doesn't meet their req's. Could I handle either of those?

it's not that bad...

I was surprised with its performance on my nephew's computer, which is a P4 775 socket, @ 3.4 GHz with HT, and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM...

that 8400GS is 128 MB, and only 64 bit, and that's why I was surprised that it ran Batman: Arkham Asylum well....

I didn't mess with the settings of the game, so the game took the settings as it wanted, and then, the game was playable without being slow.... I am really surprised with this card, I am thinking of overclocking it a bit for my nephew with Nvidia System Tools, to see what performance gain we get later ??

try to overclcok it with NST I talked about above, or the tool of your desire.

good luck.

Maybe a little more than I wanted to spend but it can go toward my next rig so it's worth it. And really I've probably been running on less wattage than I should have been anyway.
lol Newegg's PSU calculator says I'd be at 293w using integrated graphics. with the 460 card it's 475w. and with the current 8400 GS it says I'm at 330w... ouch!
The 460 768Mb Cyclone in a system with a single HDD, fan and a 980x @4.2GHz pulls a total of 323W at the wall according to this review.

The PSU Calculator (Xtreme/Antec etc.) shows that exact setup, recommending 460W and a minimum of 369W with 10% capacitor ageing.
Newegg Calculator recommends 553W.
Your current system with a a 460 768MB, 4 120mm fans and 10% ageing recommends 425W on Xtreme/Antec.

Reason being, they have to account for poorly made PSU's with not-so-great efficiency output.

Given any more HDD's or anything else in the setup, you're right about pushing up to a good quality 500W to be on the safe side I think.

I'd recommend this:-Antec NEO 520c @59.99 (3yr Warranty)

Are Cooler Master, Ultra (lifetime warranty), and OCZ good brands?

Still checking online for used ones, but these are the new ones I'm considering now:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371030
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139019
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...sku=ULT-LSP550

EDIT: I think I'll go with the Ultra unless anyone advises otherwise. Lifetime warranty and no MIR for $40... yes please!

Final question before I buy...

Ultra has a 550w and a 600w, both $40 on TD. The 600w only has 1 PCI-E cable and 2 SATA. The 550 has 2 PCI-E and 4 SATA. Are those extra cables going to be worth losing 50w? I really doubt I'll ever go SLI or Crossfire.
