OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II SSD In My Rig?

Thread Starter
I am currently looking into buying the following SSD.

OCZ (OCZSSD2-2VTX50G) Vertex 2 SATA II 2.5" 50GB Solid State Drive, Read: 285MB/s, Write: 275MB/s

I am just wondering what kind of performance boost it will add to my system.

I currently have a stock HDD but will be replacing it on my birthday to a Caviar Black.

I also want to know, how would I go about putting my OS from my current HDD onto the SSD, and will I need to also put it on the Caviar Black?
Wouldn't I need to buy more serials?

Thanks in advance.

First off a SSD doesnt add performance to games so if you were thinking that it did all it does is decrease loading times. It will make any app you have installed on it load basically instantly. The thing will boot super fast and you can move files around on it super duper fast.

you will prob need to do a clean install to the ssd then install any programs you wont on the ssd. It will not void your microsoft activation because that is registered to the mac address on your motherboard. So you can reinstall windows to a new hdd (even clone but dont do this since u got a ssd).

Thirdop in your WDD drive and boot from your current drive. Partition/format the drive the way you want it then backup your install to the drive. I suggest making a seperate backup folder or even a seperate partition on the new drive for backups. Then I would do a clean install to the ssd and install what programs you want to be on "instant load". Then I would take the old drive and format and erase it and use that as your drive for backups. Copy over the backups on your WDD drive and then erase and format that. Then install whatever games/programs/etc that wont fit on the ssd to the new empty WDD.

Hope that makes sense kinda hard to explain

Thanks.

I am not looking for game performance increase or an of that.
I just wanted to know the OS and general program performance increases.

Is this 50gb SSD enough space for my Win7 64 bit, and my programs?
I am aware that there should be extra space left on the SSD for the OS, but I doin't know how much.

It should be just fine unless you install like a hundred huge apps that are multiple gigs. I had a 40gb and it was fine. The issue is games. You need to store them on another drive as they take up lots of space.
