hi guys,
i recently aquired 7 17" dell e178fpv monitors that were broken for free after fixing them i thought about keeping 2 or 3 of them for myself i was wandering if having 2 17" monitors would be better than a single hd 19" monitor would the resolution be better on the dual screens? i have removed the bevels and am going to modify the inner chassis so that there is less of a gap between the lcd panel and the next i may even use 3 of them as that looked really cool.

You could use them as an eyefinity setup (I would go with three so as everything won't look odd) but usually they will be a higher resolution than a 19". - even if they were 1024 x 768 monitors, it would be like running a 1920 x 1200 monitor. ( 2,359,296 pixles vs. 2,304,000 respectively)

i see they are 1280x1024 1280x1024 is pixels per x and y? so they would stay the same for the height but the width would triple? also how much ram on the gpu would i need to run this properly i don't have my 5770's anymore i'm waiting to buy a 6970 but at the moment i'm running a 9600gt which can only support 2 monitors. once i get the 6970 i wanna try 6 of them lol that would be badass.

Yes... 3x 1280x1024 monitors would be 3840x1024

Which is a LOT better than 19HD monitors. 19" HD monitors are 1440x900 or lower, which means that they have LESS (LESS!!!!!) image clarity in games than 1280x1024. The vertical amount of pixels determines the image clarity...

So 1280x1024 looks better than 1440x900 most of the time.

3x 1280x1024 eyefinity is an awesome setup. But remember that you need an adapter. The cheapest one are display port to VGA that cost 30 dollars. The adapter you purchase MUST BE eyefinity validated. It will be advertised as such if it is.
