i originally excluded that board because of the nvidia chipset, i suppose ill give it a second thought. thanks

edit: no pcie 2.0.. kinda sux but it wont rly be an issue with a 9800GT

and a GTX260 would be nice, but his PSU cant rly handle more than a 9800GT. i would like to get a more powerful DX10 or 11 card, but such a low budget doesnt allow for it. if i could, i would go for a used 260 or 5770 or a 5670
I made a mistake, don't go for the mobo I suggested. Only has 1000mhz on the fsb. This would be fine for an old amd cpu, but not a current one. Stick with the one you already picked.

for the lowest budget build i usualy would go with these :
CPU 70$ after promo code (very hight chance to unlock to x4)
Mobo 42$ (even tho its 2000 MTs its not gonna have huge impact on ur perfomance , best option for you right now if ur looking to buy DDR3 later and use DDR2 for now) also has core unlock
Video Card 100$ AR (enought to max out any game on 1600x1080 and lower)
if u gonna need cheap PSU and case here are couple good options :
PSU 40$
Case 25$ AR (5 fans , bottom mounted PSU+dust filter, not too bad looking )

this is about as cheap as i would go , otherwise its a waste of money , since if u go 50 or 60 bucks lower your gonna get 3 or 4 times less perfomance , making it logical to scratch up 60 bucks more and enjoy gaming )

Did you even read his request? He doesn't need a case nor a psu, and his budget is $150.

i did , gavesome options just incase , i know his budget is 150$ but the thing is , the difference between 150$ build and lets say 200$ could be very huge like 800$ amd build and 1000$ sandy bridge build for 200 more bucks u get 2 or 3 times more perfomance , same with 150$ and 200$ builds

intel just doesnt have good options in this price level. being a fan boy of anything can cause you to miss opportunities that you otherwise could have had if people would open their eyes to both sides. i always just go with what will give me the best result for a set amount of cash. i havent dealt with AMD CPUs in years cause at the time, intel had the E5200 and it was $70 so i had to snatch one of those up, but now the tables have turned, specially with all the unlocking possible with AMD

cutting the hyper transport down to 1000mhz wont effect the CPU 'much'? how? i gonna need everything possible out of this rig so it will play games decent. and could the board i selected unlock cores? i forget the name of the SB chip that is good at unlocking and that board doesnt even list the SB chip model. and im not too concerned if the board can use DDR3. i just want it to be able to use the DDR2 he has now.

as for the CPU, yes i strongly suggested to my friend to step up to the X3, but i hadnt thought of trying to unlock it. i will definitely try that when we get the rig together...

and yea, i love my 5770 in my main rig

You can unlock on the ASRock board, but with the 3 phase power I doubt it could be done very safely if unlocking to a 95W TDP processor or more.

the board i have and the other one suggested are both Asrock boards. the one i chose has an AMD NB but the other one has the nvidia NB. can both of these unlock?

and yes, i realise the limitations of this board and i might not have the 4th core unlocked, but trying wont hurt.

GOD SPAM!!!!! e-e

Anyways op, what you said would work I think but go for a card with more RAM on it. Although then again if your on a budget the 512 version will work fine.
