Triple boot pls - Page 3

there's no point to triple boot or dual boot for that matter
just use 7 and call it the day

VM would be a safer choice than WUBI if you just want to try Linux to see what it's like.

"x64" is something like an abbreviation for 64bit x86. Not sure where it came from.

And recommend your friend to this
So you're telling me you use a dead OS?

you obviously dont play competitive where every possible fps counts.... thats fine casual gamers like your self are settled and comfy with a much popular os as win 7 and dont ask questions. good for you. i am not tho

after hearing all this i might just get a separate drive as i think i have a 40gig laying around here some where and just install. because i really am pleased with my dual boot setup and have absolutely never dealt with linux. i dont even know what the gui looks like. '

so to be safe... i will just install it on another drive. thx for your replies. i did not think it would be this difficult (moreless concerned with compatibility)

WINE (the program used to run windows programs in linx) makes games run like crap IIRC

My friend today told me to try Linux to game with and use some program to run games that arent "qualified" to run on other os's.

Ok, pls help.

How do i triple boot? Ive never used Linux and dont know anything about it. Whats the newest version etc.

Can someone walk me through this or a great *updated tutorial on how

i say updated because some of the sources i have found are from 06. uhm no ty.

This is what I would do:

Partition the drive (however much you need for each OS) into 3 partitions

Install XP x64 on one partiiton
Install 7 on another
then install linux last.

Use ubuntu. It will automatically add your other OSes to the boot manager.

On my machine I did this:

Used Ubuntu LiveCD to partition my drive into 3 partitions (because gparted is awesome and super easy to use)

Installed XP on my 20GB partition
Installed 7 on my 400GB partition
Installed Ubuntu onto my last 40GB partition
Parititoned 1GB as swap for ubuntu
left the other 3GB as free space

Which games? I know some don't work very well, but some work pretty good given the circumstances. That's with an 8800GT at an average of 20fps, not bad. If I had a better card or SLI things you just might get "playable" frames (although 20 is "playable" but just). Do you mean the games that don't have good ratings run like crap? Is it a select amount of games that run like crap? Enlighten me, cause I have played quite a few in Linux and they weren't "crap".

As much as I would like to support Linux and wine it isn't for anyone who needs performance like this:

Wine will run many games but any Windows (XP or newer) will almost always run them noticeably better.

awwwwwwwwww oh my gawd....

i have never felt so helpless in my life then 30mins ago.

installing ubuntu was easy, the GUI nice. i like the way the os is layed out. i really wish i had grown up on ubuntu/linux than windblows 98

BUT the biggest problem that plagues me and this OS. i cant get anything to run. and i should have figured that...

file extensions like exe and stuff do not work lol and i know i used wine to get steam to run which was cool but i had a motha Fin time to try and install nvidia drivers.

in my ramblings i guess im not used to the fact i have to run a terminal window and type in sht that looks like french imo to get a program, exe, msi, or any other file extension to run on linux. of course in windows i just click it and it runs and ive been spoiled lol.

im ditching linux as it just seems like to much work to get windows apps to run. i dont understand ANYTHING about linux at all. DOS in windows makes since and it took time to learn. linux awww its just to much and now (unlike when i HS where i learned this) i dont have the time to spend and experiment or learn.

im sorry for this dissappointment. thx guys for the help but omg i just cant go from english to french lol or windows to linux. i dont get it.

Why would you download linux then try to get Windows apps to run on it?

You should be running .deb's, which is the .exe for Linux (in a nutshell). Perhaps if you learnt how to use it before diving in and saying it was rubbish, you'd get something from it.
