i have never felt so helpless in my life then 30mins ago.

installing ubuntu was easy, the GUI nice. i like the way the os is layed out. i really wish i had grown up on ubuntu/linux than windblows 98

BUT the biggest problem that plagues me and this OS. i cant get anything to run. and i should have figured that...

file extensions like exe and stuff do not work lol and i know i used wine to get steam to run which was cool but i had a motha Fin time to try and install nvidia drivers.

in my ramblings i guess im not used to the fact i have to run a terminal window and type in sht that looks like french imo to get a program, exe, msi, or any other file extension to run on linux. of course in windows i just click it and it runs and ive been spoiled lol.

im ditching linux as it just seems like to much work to get windows apps to run. i dont understand ANYTHING about linux at all. DOS in windows makes since and it took time to learn. linux awww its just to much and now (unlike when i HS where i learned this) i dont have the time to spend and experiment or learn.

im sorry for this dissappointment. thx guys for the help but omg i just cant go from english to french lol or windows to linux. i dont get it.
File extensions don't exist, period. The only reason they are created (and used) is to keep different file types organized. Either way, .msi, .exe, or any WINDOWS related program won't work without a "hack" (wine).

Honestly, don't come in here *****ing about how you have to use wine + cli to get your poor windows programs to work. What you should do is ask us what alternatives there are and/or use the software center (or synaptic).

I honestly don't know what you were thinking coming into linux expecting it to be double click .exe and install, obviously you need to do some reading.

after hearing all this i might just get a separate drive as i think i have a 40gig laying around here some where and just install. because i really am pleased with my dual boot setup and have absolutely never dealt with linux. i dont even know what the gui looks like. '

so to be safe... i will just install it on another drive. thx for your replies. i did not think it would be this difficult (moreless concerned with compatibility)
Meh I get too much FPS right now as it stands and I can't even see them.
If running a game in XP for 2 extra FPS is your thing then more power to you.
I personally wouldn't miss 2 fps or whatever amount of fps you gain from running xp. But is it funny that you somehow think that I am "settled and comfy with a much popular os as win 7 and dont ask questions."
1 XP is actually more popular than 7...
2 I run distros of Linux that you probably never even heard of
3 If it wasn't for gaming I wouldn't even touch a MS OS

Linux is not windows. That's the best part.

I would install Windows 7, then Windows XP, because you can control the Boot.ini in XP, then install Linux last, because the boot loader is awesome!

If you choose to uninstall Linux having XP as your second OS make sense, for it's easy to recover XP & work with the boot ini vs Windows 7..

That's just my 2 cents though..

Or you could set each OS's system partition as active before installing the operating system, making them truly independent (doesn't matter which order you install them in either). That way, you can change bootloaders by changing active partitions, and you can delete unused systems without worrying about screwing up the bootloader.

It really depends, for me at least, all the games I play run perfectly fine in WINE and one even runs faster than in Windows (Sins of a Solar Empire, I think it's because there's more RAM available to it or something), I only use Windows for WLM as the unofficial clients don't support MSNP18 yet.
