Maxing 1080p For The Next Year

Thread Starter
How can I run MAX settings @ 1080p for the next year?

I have a C2Q 9400(3.2ghz), 4GB DDR2, and I'm gaming at 1080 resolution. My MAX budget is $350 dollars.

My plan is to upgrade my 8800GT to either a gtx 560 or 570. The goal is to max out all of the latest games @ 1080 for the next year. Is that possible with my current rig? Would I benefit from adding 4GB of system RAM?

Keep in mind that the difference between 560 and 570 is $100, which also happens to be the cost of 4GB of matching RAM.

Do I spend $350 on a 570, or on a 560 w/ 4GB extra RAM? If I went for the 570, would I benefit even more from adding more system RAM?

Sorry for the loaded post, but I've done a lot of research and I'm stuck here. A recent article on Tom's has me thinking really hard about upgrading my RAM, especially to accommodate a GPU with 1GB+ vRAM. I appreciate your response...

I'm leaning heavily toward the 570. Would a $100 RAM upgrade be worth it?

(Remember, I'll only have this rig for 1 year.)

4GB is perfect for gaming, adding 4GB will not make a difference. Go with the GTX 570, you won't regret it.

This article makes me worry that having 1.28 vRAM would require me to upgrade my OS to x64, and add 4GB of RAM. I'm about to pull the trigger on 570. I just want know if going 64-bit and adding RAM would be worth it to maximize the performance of my GPU.

Yes, I plan on replacing the entire rig next year. I'm comfortable riding out 775 for one more year. This year I'm upgrading my GPU, monitor(24" tn), and audio(sennheiser hd 595 w/astro mixamp).

I'm just waiting on my tax refund. Should be here in two weeks!

if you are running a 32 bit OS does that mean it is xp? if it is i would say it is worth getting 64 bit windows 7

I would think a gtx 560 would be capable of maxing games at 1080p for a year. I can put all the settings on high on most games with my gtx 460, this doesnt include 16xAA but I dont notice that

Don't quote me on this, but you should be able to get a free upgrade to 64bit if you have ultimate, but again, i am not sure.

Also, not sure if this is piracy, but CDkeys from 32 work on 64bit. you can borrow a win7 64 from a friend, and use your CDkey. again, sorry if this is piracy, just remove.
