Critique my new build

The parts are listed as my sig rig.

CPU: AMD PhenomII X4 955BE @ ~$150

GPU: Sapphire HD5770 ~ $125

Had a hard time deciding the case and mobo but I picked these two in the end:

Case: Lancool PC-K62 ~ $100 I could have went with a cheaper case, but due to my past experience with cheap, flimsy cases I decided to fork out a bit more even though I'm on a budget. Plus, the PC-K62 got good reviews and looks good.
11-112-239-TS?$S300W$

Motherboard: ASRock 880G EXTREME3 ~ $110 Not as well-known a brand as Asus or Gigabyte. In fact, it was started by Asus to produce cheaper mobos. However, decent reviews and USB 3.0 & SATA6GB at that price is too enticing.

RAM: Corsair XMS3 (2x2GB) ~ $50 My friend used these in his build and they've been working fine for him. Cheap price and good brand.

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W ~ $90
Enough voltage on a very good PSU at decent price.

HD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB @ 7200RPM ~ $60
Pretty basic hard drive.

LG DVD Burner ~ $20

About $720 total, comes with STALKER Call of Pripyat and an 8GB flash drive. Any critiques before I order?

i would upgrade the video card to atleast a 5850/6850/6870 for about $25 more. you can find them for about $159 after rebate, or $150 secondhand in the marketplace here

TruePower New 650W: better PSU for the same price.

personally i'd change mobos as i don't typically trust ASRock for some reason. that could just be me though.

case is personal opinion.

GPU, i'd try and put more money into. SERIOUSLY. like, $25 more gets you a TwinFrozr II cooled GTX 460 768 SOC from MSI, WITH Mafia II and Just Cause 2, both good games. the TFII cooler is really quiet, and i honestly don't hear it at load over my CPU and case fans, and my rig is geared for silence.

you can alternatively cheap out, and save money by going with a Galaxy card if you are on a tight budget, or go eVGA, and step up later to a 560 Ti or something better. the eVGA cards are more expensive out of the gate though

what's the total budget? and don't forget to look for combo deals.

Considered those options, but I'm not sure I can spare the extra money due to circumstances. Plus, gaming at maximum settings is not a priority ATM.

Any suggestions for the other parts?

As -iceblade^ said, New TP-650 is better deal.

How does the GTX 460 compare to the 5770?

it's decently faster - fast enough that i'd take the $25 and spend it on that. i tend to be the kind who likes big performance improvements FWIW.

that was at launch btw

thing is, the way i see it, you don't want to be going back and saying, dang, i wish i had spent that $25 extra, you know? if you can't you can't fair enough, but if you can, then IMO make a way.

I guess I'll seriously consider it for now. As for the PSU, how is it better exactly? The Corsair has been out for quite some time, have over 1500 reviews in Newegg with 5 eggs. Hard to top that...plus Corsair is known for good power supplies.

go ask tator tot or phaedrus 2129 tongue.gif

it's got less ripple, is semi-modular, has a very good warranty, and is i think based off a newer and more efficient design. the TX650 is old now and you'll probably get one of the revised units which started off getting a bad rep for being cost-cut and not necessarily as good as the older units.

as for antec their customer service is awesome. very awesome. fan from my case came dead from factory and they issued me an RMA with no questions or hassle.

don't use newegg reviews as a big metric in determining if something is good or not. half the time you get people who claim to know more than they actually do, or people who just want to rate for the sake of rating. for example:

c.png

from a review of my PSU. if you know anything about the PSU, you will know that the fan is temperature activated and will only turn on when needed, which is in itself rare. there's even a gold paper slip placed around the PSU when you open it for the first time, that you have to remove before installing, saying the same thing. not saying that all reviews are bad, nor that you shouldn't use them, as they do have merit in some ways, but you can get a lot of dumb people on Newegg... anyways, i'm not a PSU expert

Thank you iceblade for helping me out. I'll seriously consider some of the suggestions you made. I still have time before I order these parts so I'll make sure I don't regret any of my choices. :]
