But, why did you buy the 980x then?

I'm not flaming, i'm just curious because you're in a "delicate" situation there. Is it about the money or the expectations over the 980x weren't fulfilled?

Even with the i7 930 you won't get huge improvements with SandyBridge... ( i mean, if you have your 930 overclocked )
Buyers remorse?

Sad thing is, 980x benchmarks go back and forth with the 2600k, and the 980x wipes the floor with almost every regular PC action, especially the one's that are multithreaded.

Don't know why anyone would ever replace it for a 2600k.

Don't worry though man! You'll be able to pick one up in April!

Well a 980x is $1000 while a 2600k is like $360. So take that $640 you save and get a GTX 580 and still have over a hundred bucks, or go get some SSD's in RAID0.

Personally I think going from a regular hard drive to SSD gives the greatest jump in visual improvement. Stuff actually opens much faster and you notice it. Synthetic benchmarks are nice but they don't really mean anything if you can't tell the difference between a computer running a 980x or a Pentium 4.

I bet if you took 2 computers and one had a 980x with regular hard drives and then the other had a 2600k with SSD's, then made random people use them to see what they thought was faster they would pick the one with the SSD's every time. Plus you can impress your friends when you can boot in ~10 seconds or less.

We all know whatever money he saves from selling would be spent on some random toy along the line before IB hit. It is all pointless in the end

I just build my new computer about 8 days ago
i7-980X w/ Corsair H70, EVGA E770 Classified3
3x GTX580 SLI, and 12GB 6x2 Corsair Dominator GT mems.

Everything is awesome for now! i overclocked my bad boy to 4.37GHz and i got about 58xxx score in 3DMark Vantage (GPUs are stock for mfr speeds of 815MHz)
i didn't try a lot of games other than Team Fortress 2 & Grand Theft Auto IV which they don't support SLI (sadly..especially GTA IV), don't get the wrong idea! i have about all the modern games, but i didn't had a chance to try them out....too lazy lol
so i can't really tell how performance i get with the games that support SLI.

Anyway.....i decided to sell my 980X for about $819..i had to drop down the price because i don't think that anyone will buy it! even if it's only for 2 weeks use, there is not a lot of people buys this high end stuff
and for the motherboard maybe $319, so now i have $1138 after sellings those two.

That's why i decided to go for i7-2600K and ASUS Maximus IV Extreme (im already in love with this board!)
and they will only cost me $679.98 and there is $458 left.....awesome!

I think this setup is about the same performance and much more cheaper! and i also can get better overclock speeds.
Oh and i forgot about my 12GB Corsair memories, i'll sell them too for about $430 and i think i'll go for Corsair Vengeance 8GB 4x2 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 $139.99

What do you guys think? do you agree with me selling my 980X and E770 board? do you agree with me buying the exact mobo & memory i selected?

Thanks to all of you!
HOLY ****, I nearly pissed myself when I read this, dude, you sound like a gamer so I'm going to give it to you straight, GTAIV SUPPORTS XFIRE AND SLI, you just need to patch your game/drivers TO DATE.

As for your dilemma, I have seen the 980X perform like a BEAST in games, even on **** graphics cards, but I have only heard talk of 2600K performance, plus maybe a synthetic Vantage bench, which as you know is RETARDED compared to any REAL GAME BENCHMARK.

lot of ppl think AMD will make a comeback (im not talking fanboys) but we'll see when the time comes summer next year hahaha.

Until then don't kid yourself you won't see like a "billion" more P67 cores and maybe a few X58....but that's just theory based on the idea that people's wages need to be paid so money needs to be made! the 990X made an unexpected surprise!

Hey smartguy, what do you call these? Maybe you should read a little before throwing around words like "RETARDED" as it is you who will come out looking rather special, and not in the sense that your mother thinks of you.

In case you need any help, the 2600k beats the 980x in almost every "REAL GAME BENCHMARK" as performed by Anandtech.
