new to linux but wireless?

Thread Starter
I think and feel i have a grasp on this....

I have an old toshiba a65 -s1062 computer
its pretty ok it runs pro xp sp3 fine but i want to lighten the load on this beast
so i was like hmm what about linux and there different distributions they have

Saw the great linux how to for noobs link and clicked it read it all
and saw that the best i would have to go with is Lubuntu...

Which is lightweight, light on my hardware( this computer is not the greatest but it still kicks but for pdf veiwing and movie watching )

So now im looking up wireless internet on lubuntu...
this is where im having trouble

I have a D-Link DWL-G630 H/W Ver. C2 Firmware Ver. 3.01
.. i looked around it came up with this

DWL-G630 hw Ver:C2 fw Ver:3.01 = Model
Atheros AR5005G = Chipset
Madwifi = Driver
? = Supports network install
Yes = Supported in installed system?
Yes = Works "out of the box
Driver in linux-restricted-modules. Native support in Edgy. = Comments
21-Jan-2007 = Last updated

So i go to ubuntu Edgy
Link For it on help

And i get lost right here....

Im new to this other than using Knoppix i beleive to recover files thats all i know about it fully

Where do i go from there i have yet to install Lubuntu on my computer yet..
trying to find more answers to the questions and its going pretty smooth but this part i am at a total loss

Thank you Overclock.net YOUR the 5h!t

Not trying to be rude, but I am having a hard time understanding what you are exactly asking. Have you tried booting off Live CD to check if your wifi was noticed? If not I recommend trying that while connected to ethernet and running the updates to see if it is noticed then. Then choose to install if you are happy with it.

I agree with Nburnes. Burn a disk and boot from it. Give it a few minutes and see if it automatically recognizes it. It should. Atheros is a popular chipset and madwifi is a popular driver system.

Yeah, something is wrong. I'm thinking you either got a bum ISO or there was an error when you burned. Did you check the md5sums?

Wubi is bad.

Try a Xubuntu disk. Lubuntu, as far as I know, isn't a mainstream build of the *buntus. Check the md5sum before you burn and burn it at the lowest speed possible.
