Dell i7 question

Thread Starter
I currently have a Dell XPS system that has an i7 920 Bloomfield at 2.66 ghz. I want to build my own system and was wondering if Dell uses a proprietary CPU or is it the same as all others? I could cut out around 300 bucks from my budget if i used the same CPU from my Dell system.

It uses the same as the rest. You are able to take out the Core i7 CPU from that computer and use it for another build. Just make sure to know what model i7 it is (I assume 920) before choosing your motherboard.

yeah all you need to do is swap out the motherboard with a decent one with OC options available. and get a heatsink.

Yea it's a 920 Bloomfield. I have the whole build planned out. Reusing the CPU and my GPU i would estimate around 600-700 dollars Just trying to save some money by reusing some parts. Could use the RAM too. Just didn't think it would be as good as OCZ or Corsair. Would save me another 100.

It's some generic brand called Nanya Technologies. and they run at 1024mhz. So i guess i'll need new RAM?
