GTX 580 with Core i5

post #1 of 17
Thread Starter
I wanted to know what kind of gaming performance should be expected from Nvidia GTX 580 (single card) on a system with an Intel core i5-750, MOBO DP55wg and 8GB of Ram at 1333 Mhz?

Furthermore (maybe this should be in the monitors section but because it involves GTX 580), what kind of a monitor is recommended on this system if the resolution is 1920 x 1200 for games;

Should the max refresh rate of the monitor be 60Hz or 120 Hz?

If it is LED then what kind of Backlighting should be used; RGB LED or WLED?

Monitor wise 24' is probably the smallest you'd wanna go, imo. Not too sure about the type of backlighting but 120hz if you could afford it would be nice to have if you wanted to do 3D gaming or dvd/bluray watching. As for the performance you'd be good to go with maxing games out.

You will have a computer that can play most any game maxed out. The one's it cant max out would need 2 cards. The 1156 i5-750 is a very good and strong CPU. More expensive CPU's wont give you much more performance in games. They OC well also.

60hz is fine.

I just bought this 28inch 1920x1200 screen. There are obviously more expensive screens, that I hope would be better. However, this screen is awesome and great bang for the buck. I am guessing you want bang for the buck based on your rig. If money is no object.

You can pay more and go IPS.

How much do you want to spend? You have a system that can max out pretty much any game.

Well this system is the maximum that I can afford. I don't want to go for SLi or CF solutions. By the way what casing would be recommended if the PSU is Corsair TX905w. I live in a hot city (Lahore, Pakistan) so I'd like a casing with lot's of airflow. Don't want water or liquid nitorgen cooling as they'll probably cost extra.

I was referring to the monitor.

Your choice in a case all depends on what you want/need (what style appeals to you, how large you need the case to be, etc). In my opinion, Corsair and Lian Li cases are nice.

I've read about certain issues with 120hz, like the GPU clock runs at a higher speed by default at 120hz and it's only worth it (in games) if the FPS matches or exceeds the refresh rate.

I can tell you in Pak rupees, Rs. 30,000 max. That's roughly about $350 according to todays exchange rates.

Full tower wise maybe a HAF-X, HAF 932, Antec 900, TJ09 or RV02. Out of these the HAF 932 is the most bang for buck case. Alot of people don't really like the way it looks but it does it's job really well. You'll need some air filters though, but can be easily made at home.

120hz really isn't worth the extra money. 60hz is totally fine for gaming. Spend the extra money you would spend on 120hz on a bigger resolution.
