Apple, Microsoft, Sony, etc...

You don't have to look far to find someone with motive to disrupt the flow of free software.

Yea, because large companies decided "Hey, let's let them offer free software for years so they have a strong base of users and supporters, then randomly decide to attempt to steal passwords used on their website." Contrary to the argument you see in various pirate threads where thieves try to justify their theft, EVERYONE is a target in a digital world, not just companies charging money/including DRM in their products. The thought that everything is based around a "people doing things for free are safe from attacks" is inherently flawed because some people, like it or not, will screw over anyone they possibly can to save/make money and justify it with whatever argument the stupid, ignorant masses would be most likely to adopt.

I wouldn't be surprised if some random group of hackers came out of the woodwork and said they did it because use of free software increases awareness of for-pay alternatives and had 10,000 of the thieves on OCN posting articles about how they are heroes.

Slow down there buddy, there is no way that they would do that.... stealing passwords from sourceforge, Microsoft or Apple? Seriously?

It's more likely that someone had a grudge against a specific user and tried to hack their password..

Why the hell does anyone need a password at SF anyway? I mean if you're a developer or something I can understand it...but the average Joe?
