Acer Aspire 5315 - A New Life ...

Thread Starter
I am breathing some semi-new life into an Acer Aspire 5315.

New keyboard, 2GB DDR2 667 Mushkin, WD 250GB 7,200 HDD, & XP Pro x86 (extremely stream-lined, essentials only) all sitting here - ready to go in/on. cool.gifbiggrin.gifcool.gif

I know full-well everyone will ask,"Why?". Eh, I have very little $$$ invested, & it will serve a minimal, but needed purpose.

Sooo, ... I am exploring upgrading the CPU. It is an Intel Celeron-M 540 Socket P (1M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 533 MHz FSB), & I am sure I cannot go too speedy, as it will likey overheat - again & again.

I have been looking on eBay ... would a stock, dual-core 1.5GHz out-perform this stock single-core 1.86GHz? If so, cool. If not, what might I be better off with, if anything? *FYI: I am not interested in getting involved w/ a mobo swap, etc.*

I will continue to peak around the WWW, & see what other options there might be ...

Lastly, can anything be done with the *factory* Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100? I have not opened it up, but I am guessing it is mobo-based gpu. Might I find an expansion slot for discrete gfx?

One last note: Do not get me wrong, I certainly am not looking to play games on this, ... it is doubtful I could have a good 'experience' on Pogo.com, but I want to see how far I can push it. Plus it is my 1st laptop/notebook I will be ripping into - gently ripping into -, which is exciting to me. drum.gif
