Will i notice a differerance?

Thread Starter
I'm on the fence about buying a SSD drive, or Buying two for RAID 0.

I know that if i buy Two, they will not have TRIM, so there for i would get 2 X C300 64GB.

On the other hand, if i only go for one, i was thinking about the Vertex 2 80GB.

So, my question is, is the extra speed of RAID 0 noticeable enough for the extra money?

Think this will be my last thread about SSD drives and what to get.

Vertex 2 is awsome and yeah, times the read and write speed by x2 so you get double the performance speed if it's in RAID 0

thanks,
I do realize that things will become "faster" in RAID 0, but will it be a noticeable difference?

In my experience, no. A few things are faster (copying to or from another high speed array for example - but you need another fast array otherwise the single SSD won't be the bottleneck), and you may shave a little off loading larger maps or similar. But the day-to-day usage is pretty much identical.

I wouldn't bother with RAID with SSDs myself.

I'd raid two Samsung F3's, cheaper.

I wouldn't bother with raid for 2 SSDs. Part of their charm is the low seek times, and it's not going to get any lower in RAID0.

Instead of getting 2x C300 64GB for RAID, get a single 128GB and get much better write speeds (writes are what really matter)

My experience with RAID 0...

Nothing but disadvantages. My computer freezes for maybe 30 seconds + whenever I put too much load on the drives and HD Tune pro says I have about 2x the speed but I notice NO difference.

I'm never going to bother with RAID again. Unless its RAID 5, that has a use.

If your computer is freezing like that then you have issues - it's not the RAID that does that in itself.

Be careful with RAID5 also - it's usage is limited also. Don't expect to use it for a performance boost with redundancy for your OS drive(s) for example - you will end up very disappointed as it has terrible small write performance.

Wow this is pretty poor info here. 2 x 64gb c300's will give you about the same write performance as one 128gb.

But you will get double the read time. And reads are what really matters. Do you spend more time installing things or using the things that you have installed? If its the latter then read is better.

That being said I recently added a second c300 for raid 0 and can't say I noticed a difference. But I did it to get some more space and some better write speeds.

I would go with the vertex 2 over 1 c300.

And actually raid 0 did cut my write seek time in half. From about .75 to .4
