Thread Starter
Ok tomorow im building my friend a rig, and i was originally going to go with this (before SB):

AMD Phenom 955 BE
ASrock 890GX extreme3
1600 9-9-9-24 G.Skill NQ

buuuut since SB i have been considering this as an alternative

Intel i5-2400
Edit: MB will ASUS P8H67-M or MSI P67A-C43
1600 9-9-9-24 G.Skill NQ

This will be used as a low end gaming rig (no crossfire) with a gfx card like a 6850 or 460.

Unfortunately no overclocking will be done , which rig and why?

Intel i5 2400 .

The i5-2400 has performance as close to Intel's 980x .

I vote Intel unless the cost savings by picking AMD allows you to get a better GPU.

If the prices are the same or within $20.00, get the Intel system.

Wait wait wait, you're actually considering Phenom II vs SB at the same price point?

Also, pony up the few extra dollars for a GTX560. Worth it in the long run, may stave off the need to upgrade for a few more months.

Intel all the way. At this point I would never go with an AMD build since Sandy Bridge Destroyed any chip AMD had on the market. Just look for yourself

games become more cpu bound at lower resolutions thats why...if u would have noticed game benchmarks on cpu's are always done on quite low resolutions to gauge the actual cpu performance in games.......
