Temperature Conversion

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I have a question about temperature conversion and I'm sorry if this is the wrong spot to ask but I thought it would be the best forum to put it in.

So here's what's going on.

Lets say you are looking at the temperature of your CPU in a room that is 25C and the CPU temp is showing 43C then you go into a room that is 29C and it is showing 49C. How would I convert the temperatures to give me accurate data?

It is very hard to explain and I hope someone can understand what I am talking about and help me out.

Thanks,
Kenneth

Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion?

If so, use programs like HWMonitor from www.cpuid.com would give you both readings at the same time.

If not, it just means that you might have a pretty good CPU cooler in a way... that can hold that temp to 43C. tongue.gif

Hope this helps.

Hi Kentech, well this is a cool question (no pun intended:)), so I will give it a a shot! I like that H50 cooler- looks pretty nice though I haven't looked at it's rated capacity. First off I would check this out if you haven't already: http://www.guru3d.com/article/corsair-h50-cpu-cooler-review/7. They said "For optimal performance the radiator fan needs to be pointed inwards, meaning it needs to blow cold air into the system. Typically this is an exhaust point." With that nailed down, I'd also make sure you have some good thermal grease applied properly "I'd use a razor blade), and judging from your specs, I'd imagine you would all the above buttoned up nicely:)

Now for my two cents. I think that you are asking for a numerical value for how much delta t (temperature difference) your cooling system is capable of based on room ambient temp..

Lets break it down a little: Room #1: [25 ambient minus 43 CPU temp] = -18 Delta T {where delta t=your systems ability to cool the CPU @ 25 degrees ambient room temperature.} so far so good? Room#2 same formula applied [29 ambient minus 43 CPU temp] = -14 Delta T. In the mathematical sense that 4 degrees Celsius difference wasn't enough to change the Delta T, so while it may seem glib, my answer, is that for that specific room ambient temperature range (25-29 degrees) your cooling capacity is pretty much constant, although I'm sure at 25 degrees there is probably a fractional temperature difference. There are graphs that demonstrate the relationship between cooling capacity and room ambient. Though I doubt there is one tailored just for your rigs configuration. You would probably see more predicable results in ranges where the two variables aren't so close together..

My guess: your room ambient temps aren't far enough apart to demonstrate a strain on your cooling capacity. For instance if the room temp was much lower or higher you would then see a difference. That plus I would make sure you are using another program like Speed Fan for duel or tertiary redundancy. Definitely double check the basics. That;s a good looking cooler and I'd guess your Temps should be lower. There are others in this forum with a much broader knowledge of what your temps should be for your configuration. If you have a temperature probe use it for entering and exiting temps. The difference shouldn't be a lot if your system is moving enough case air. Ive heard someone say to use your hand and the two temps should feel about the same. Hopes this helps!!

Wow thanks for the help!

This build is using a stock intel HSF and not the H50 so that would explain the "odd" temps.

The mathematical equation makes a lot of sense though and I guess I would really see a difference if my room temp was dramatically different.

You did answer a my quest very good though.

No problem for the help, my pleasure;). Just for kicks, you night wanna grab a little temp probe sometime like at a hardware store or even Walmart. Analog or digital, like the kind used to stick in meat, but with a reasonable temp range, and keep it for static ambient checks. I have about 2 analogs and 3 different digital probes, one IR, one k-type thermocouple, another digital stick in meat kind used for HVACR:) use them all at once to see the whole picture maybe even play around with the IR by pointing it at the heat sink or MB to find higher temps areas which arent getting enough airflow.
