I could always try it, if it works it works, if it doesn't...then back to square one

EDIT: I tried it, but I'm kind of lost. I got the .exe off of lenovo's website (i know .exe's don't run in Linux), i opened ndiswrapper and it was complaining it wasn't a .inf? .....uuuhhh

The exe is the installer for the .inf driver file. If you want to use that file, you'd have to crack open the exe.

According to my search, there is a linux native driver. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_...ni_PCI_Adapter. There is definitely a native driver.

This driver is in the kernel so this is usually a two step process:

Download http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/firmware.php and extract them to /lib/firmware

Run
Code:
sudo modprobe ipw2100
Hope this works.

Just tried this, it's complaining I don't have sufficient permissions to extract it there

One way to do it:
Code:
sudo tar xf file_name -C /lib/firmware

I think I'm doing something wrong, I'll walk you through what I did and hopefully one of you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

1. I downloaded both of these files just in case:

2. I saved them to my desktop (not in the downloads folder)

3. I extracted 1.2 do my desktop, so it's not .tgz it's just a folder

4. in this folder there are three files .fw files

5. Now I'm lost

...and thanks for all you guys' patience this far, I owe some reps

You want to move the three *.fw files to /lib/firmware. Pick one to go with - either 1.2 or 1.3. Pretty sure you don't want both.

They are on your desktop right? I'm about 90% sure your desktop is the directory ~/Desktop.

Try
Code:
ls ~/Desktop
Are the *.fw files listed? If so run
Code:
sudo mv ~/Desktop/*.fw /lib/firmware
Sanity check:
Code:
ls /lib/firmware
The *.fw files you copied should be listed.

Follow up with
Code:
sudo modprobe ipw2100

Greetz
I use a number of alternate OpSys and years ago got tired of messing with network adapter drivers. Solution? Go driverless!

There are numerous products out there but this one I;ve used for years now and it's great not only for never having to mess with drivers ever again but it does several jobs. Recently I recommended this one to someone here and they found one that connects game consoles, HTPC, phones, anr network aware printers. Here's mine, a DLink 730AP that connects via standard NIC and configures like a router (since it can also be one) from a web browser and be firmware updated like a router.
