Thread Starter
The system will be used for gaming, video + photo editing and then the usual stuff, but 3d rendering is one of the things I'd like to try out

Ok that works

Following up on what a few people said, there are cheaper boards that still two SLI. I think going tri SLI is something people always think about, but in reality in a year or two are you going to buy the same card you buy now? I think the answer is no and that most people would want to upgrade to the current generation cards.

Of the 2 the 2600K would probably be better right now...Depending where you get the CPU from...the 950 will be a little cheaper...Either one though will be monsters..

I would go 2600k. I decided to go with that last week against the 950 like you and so far have been extremely pleased. Cinebench 11.5 I received an 8.69 at a 4.5ghz overclock at 1.264vcore. I don't know if I would go for the Maximus board. I am going with the Asus Pro, but definitely the Deluxe or EVO would be great. My PRO board at the moment is giving me problems with the RAM.
