I have the same chip and i've been helping a few guys with this problem, to start with if you have the stock cpu cooler you should change that out but first try booting with stock clock speed and bump the cpu voltage up to 1.4v if the other 2 cores still refuse to boot...u just got unlucky, if 4 does not work try 3 and try different combos...maybe core 4 is stable and 3 is not or vice versa. pm me if you need more help i got my 555 unlocked to a B55 @ 4.2ghz 1.5v and cpu nb to 2600mhz
I tried unlocking it with my 790FX, and I got no luck at all.
Do any of you think a bios update on my motherboard could do the trick? Or do you think its just a bad chip?
Bad chip bro, I've had two of them and a 545 and NONE of them would unlock but way back when Phenom II first came out I picked up a 720 BE that unlocked just fine. AMD must be very happy they can sell so much silicon unscrapped. LOL I think what most people do is to keep returning the chips until they get one that works. I just never had the nerve to do that. I hoped for good luck and it didn't happen.
i had three 555 black editions about a week ago on a TA890FXE. none of them unlocked, tried different bios too. at this point in time, i feel that the amount of unlockable 555s are few.
Thats probably one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.
I like to overclock chips and see how they perform. If I wanted too I could buy Intels best i7, but it just isn't necessary for my needs.
Please keep in mind this is OVERCLOCK.NET.
Thanks for all of the replies guys! I will probably end up just craigslisting this rig and build a brand new one.
