RESOLVED - USB HDD Dilemma!

Thread Starter

Few months back i purchased a

, everything worked fine. Today I plugged it in to my desktop, I hear the windows 7 *jingle* when a usb device is plugged in, but no device is shown as connected. I tried rebooting, reinstalling my chipset drivers, etc. I then plugged the usb into my laptop and it worked just fine! I then plugged it into my girlfriend's laptop, worked just fine too!

So now, I sit here wondering why my desktop would not detect the usb where all my other computers are detecting it

any ideas?
thanks ahead of time, i have faith in my overclock.net community!

That's a flash drive. So you plug it in and checked My Computer and nothing is there? Hmm, it has something to do with how Windows detects drivers for plugged in devices. I once had to change the setting for that so it would use Windows Update to find the driver.

edit: Go into device manager and under the Disk Drives Tab you should be able to see plugged in flash drives and hard drives. Fiddle with driver settings there maybe? (With it plugged in)

Wait a moment, i just noticed that libusb-win32 category, expanded it. This is what I see:

EDIT:
Hurray! I right-clicked it, update driver software, selected use online database.

SUCCESS! Thanks Markisa for pointing me in the right direction, couldn't have figured it out without you
