Question:

Do you blame the man who invented the sword for the crusades?
What about the people in the Manhattan project with the murder of two entire cities?

Sony is pursuing this in the name of prevent piracy, whet they have no right. Sure, the 'hack' he found can allow piracy, but our society [until now] pursues the one who actually commits the crime, not the one who provides the opportunity to commit the crime [except in some situations].

Exactly. Breaking copyrighted software in order to increase the functionality of a device that you bought with your own money is legal. Sony is just on a power trip.

If the USA has any hope as a nation by the people for the people, this won't stand for long. If, however, Sony ends up the winner at the end of the day, I'll be moving to Mexico.

I honestly doubt you'll move anywhere, as many people will only voice their intentions when not faced with the question A or B.

The law changes with the times and what people want from it along with it.

The Nuclear Bomb's were desired by the U.S. at the time to save their sons that were over sea's, as the Oriental side of the war was looking to take quite some time. Only afterwards did anyone criticize the use of it, but in truth got what they asked for, which was the return of their families.

In hindsight I can understand why the courts would approve of Sony's demands because down the road sony's and the U.S. both want to prevent as much piracy as possible and bolstered its own sales as well as economy.

In all reality 55-60% of ps3 users that know what the ps3 is now capable of will be using the hack, which 40% of those will more than likely be doing everything they can to get free games, or watch free movies. I know some of us here will use the ps3 for the linux functionality, which for I was curious about as well...

You know, I would laugh to no end if they just wanted to scan through his hdd's for the info they wanted and then hand it back to him when they were finished lmao, just a thought

A precedent for someone distributing a hack that specifically does not lead to anything illegal (He did not allow piracy in his hack, even if that will come eventually from someone else) and then a company being granted a restraining order on the person and gaining access to his hardware?

The closest example in recent history to that would be the iPhone jailbreaking thing and we all know how that turned out. I still don't understand how Sony just got away with this... and can't he just appeal it?

i have wiped and completely lost all data on a lot of hard drives. when i buy open box drives i format them in WBFS wipe that then install Linux wipe that and then install my os.

as for geo he should have just released his cfw and went on with other hacks.

i own a wii a ps2 ps3 psp and a ds and use hacks and cfws or flasfcards on all of them.

Breaking DRM for research purposes has been exempted by the Library of Congress, which I think will have an impact on Sony's case. Anyway, I don't think Sony can win this I think they just want to hassle Hotz and anyone else involved to scare them off this type of thing in the future.

Yeah not a smart idea. Destruction of evidence is also a crime.

{
return 4;
}
Pasted into a .txt file... I would lol as they would try to crack it but get nothing but thier own failue as a reward.
