Yay for putting the little man down because you're butthurt over a bunch of people getting one over on your whole team of developers, programmers, coders etc etc.

You can make numerous passes over the HDDs to ensure the data isn't recoverable.

Unless he's stopped by law, I would open the enclosure up, smash the platters with a hammer, then blend the bigger pieces to dust.

The government does something very similar, reducing drives to dust. They then securely store that dust because they're so insanely paranoid.

Well what else should they do? I'm pretty sure sony is going insane over this because they do not want a repeat of the PSP. The psp was basically ripped open and raped. Tell me how many people you know with PSP's that weren't hacked and playing downloaded games? They're simply trying to stop another disaster.

Waaaay off topic, but lets say I wanted to reformat my hard drives to go back to just two drives (non-RAID), obviously deleting the partitions then formatting won't really erase data - so, what's the best way to clean format and prep the HDD for a clean/new Windows 7 install?!

And... On topic - Sony should have done what MS did and gave the guy a shirt, then hired him for a small salary and find out their own security holes. Seems it would be much cheaper to me than legal counsel...

10 days is plenty of time to wipe all the drives, take a dump in it then set it on fire. then tell sony to come and pick it up themself.

or fill it up with hacks so that when sony plugs it in to see what he was doing it crashes playstation network

I'd slap in new HD's and load them up with viruses then hand them over with a smile.

This. There are programs out there that write 0's and 1's to the hard drive multiple times in order to ensure any data that was on the hard drive is no longer recoverable. Either way, it probably would not be in his best interest to do so considering it virtually amounts to an admission of guild. Well, that and I would imagine that any judge/jury would not look to highly on the defendant tampering with evidence prior to the trial.
