Incompatibility ati 4850 and win7

Thread Starter
Hey guys ,
I came here for help since my windows version or directx is having issues with my Video card... or it's drivers.. games loose FPS whenever I install a ATI display driver... while I only had the driver win7 automatically installed games like Medal of Honor 2010 ran at 45 fps (promedy) and after I got the latest ATI driver they dropped to 21 FPS , same with COD:Black ops .
This didn't happen when I had my win7 on other hard drive which was faster than this one... but I don't think that's the problem.
Any solution ?

Don't use the latest drivers with the 4XXX series, they're more geared towards the latest releases. Try something like 10.4-10.9.

Well, that can be the problem. Tough I am using the latest driver, and I do not have any issues with it (for now, at least with games like STALKER, FIFA11, CoD4/6, Champions/Lord of the Rings Online).

Grobi I think Jellis142 is right... and by the way all the drivers I tried were from 10.10 and beyond , and since the driver windows installed alone it's 10.1 if I'm correct I think it's gonna work , I only hope COD will stop the freezes and fps drops.
I can tell that issue wont happen to you untill you try something VERY demanding on the Graphics card side since you have what I'd call ''the hell of a system'' , you double spec my Pc on Ram processor and motherboard , that's why my games rely more on the video card and any single error will cause problems to it...you've got the memoery and processor to support your 4850 plus the games I've named seem to be heavier than Fifa and LOTR online, you'd give it a shot to Black ops and tell me how did it go
Thank you guys!

I only tried the Medal of Honor Beta, never bought the game, but it was a comfortable 60fps, same with most games these days, with AA off of course. And in all seriousness...I don't have that powerful of a system compared to ANY i7 or P II on OCN, I'm still running completely stock But from what I've heard, Black Ops has problems no matter the system.

And Grobi just has one of those systems that works with 10.10. Kind of jealous of that. Anyway, hope the driver problems get resolved, I see lots of life from this GPU.

Well I'm a lil too much of a perfectionist dude haha and I always try to run it with a nice graphics quality , I love appreciating what the game comes with... but we all have to get over with the fact that some games are just screwed up like Need for speed Undercover my system obviously own it but its programming is so lame and full of bugs that it wont run without lag (I tired it on the lowest graphics quality ). Then black ops it's known that the game was designed for consoles , still the first time I played it it worked perfectly no lag no FPS drop nor freezing, just some bug of the gameplay.

Which system does he have ? it's strange we all posses the same graphics card in spite of the memory and our cpu's, and of course you're right... this Gpu still has a lot of life... it's a great one!

Have you played Need For Speed Hot Pursuit? The new one. It runs flawlessly, but then again, it doesn't have display settings worth mentioning. Undercover runs fine for me though...but then again, games are using 4+ cores these days, so that's where a huge jump is. Also a lot of life left in LGA 775, so going to a Core 2 Quad wouldn't be a bad decision if you can get your hands on a Q9XXX or Extreme Edition for a good price. 4Gb is the consensus for RAM, and everything else looks ok.

Yeah you're totally right , nowadays games are asking for Quads and due to my motherboard I'm totally doing that as soon as I get some money , also looking fordward getting some 4gb kit @ 1066 mhz though they're more expensive than DDR3.I'm currently playing the latest Hot pursuit , it does run flawlessly and just like you say it only has a couple of options and that's all... where is the Vsync option that can't just be missing!
There's only one thing happening with hot pursuit and is a lil lag when the race starts in some maps , I tried changing everything but wont leave , anyway the game runs at a promedy of 45 fps at 1920x108o pixel with maxed out graphics so I won't complain about that lil lag.
