? Transfer Data from Firewire to USB

Thread Starter
I have an old Sony Vaio on which both USB ports are useless. I do have an active Firewire port on the Notebook pc. I want to make sure before I buy a Firewire to USB cable that I can transfer data through the cable to my desktop and back and forth using this method. If anyone has any advice I could sure use it before I spend the cash.

the cable should work, its just transfering data from end to the other, it probably run only at usb 2.0 speeds. i reckon its a go unless u can find other reasons not to. have you thought of getting your usb ports checked/repaired?

The USB ports can not be repaired as they are attached to the motherboard and not worth the cost to repair them. Would cost less to buy a new motherboard than to repair the USB ports. Besides the notebook is so old, its not worth replacing the motherboard plus the cost to do it.
