New Build, contemplating GTX 580

Thread Starter
Putting together a new machine as soon as someone finally gets the Maximus IV in stock, new egg keeps teasing me with ETA 1/24, then 1/29, and its still not available

But I wanna pull the trigger on a 580, but I cant decide if I should just get one 580, or two 570's, or just wait a little longer until they release the newest model. I'm sure I'll be happy with either one, I just don't wanna drop 500 on a 580 and then a month later they come out with a newer better card for the same price.

Any suggestions?

There is not gonna be a better card at the same price until the 6xx series is released. Personally a single GPU is a great experience and I think you would be happiest with the single 580.

However I would never buy the Maximus Extreme for a single GPU config. Since you are not moving the BCLK at all with SB, there really isn't much reason to go crazy for a board unless you are looking for the NF200 chip.

The Gigabyte UD4 gives great price to performance and think where you could put all that extra money you didn't waste on the Maximus.

If you don't feel like upgrading more than once when new gpus come out, then stick with 2x 570s/560s/6950/6970 or 1 6990 or 595. Single GPUs like the 580 are really nice but it is nice to save money and have more gpu power than a single 580.
