8800GT Fan Trouble...Please Help!

I apologize for this being so long but I wanted to give as much detail as I could.

I have an issue and it is driving me nuts and its tough to get good information on this through Google searches and I know there must be someone on here that knows the answer. Overclock.net has never failed me!

So here's my problem, I recently put an old XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition PV-T88P-YDF4 into my new system which is listed below. I ran this card in an older Intel C2D/P55 system with no problems.

For the past month or so I have been running the onboard ATi 42xx graphics but I needed something more powerful. As soon as I put the 8800GT in and booted I noticed the fan seemed like it was running full out from the time the power hit the card, all the way through boot up and through shut down.

So looked online and I went through all the steps. Removed the ATi drivers that might be lingering with Driver Cleaner Pro, removed the nVidia drivers (latest rev) and physically removed the card. Then reinstalled everything. No dice.

I checked GPU-Z and you can see in the screen shot that it says it's at 33%, but it sounds like 100%. Even when I run FurMark the % doesn't go up even through the heat does.

So I found the original BIOS on techpowerup (verified by part number) and flashed the bios. Still nothing.

I tried all the tools, nTune, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner. Those tools give the appearance that they are adjusting the fan, but the sound doesn't change and neither does the % readout on GPU-Z.

This wasn't an issue when I ran the card in my older system and since it happens as soon as the computer has power it makes me think it's not a driver issues and not an issue with the vBIOS because I flashed it. It must be an issue with my motherboard or something.

I tried disabling the IGP in the BIOS, it didn't do anything.

Please help me!!! I like a quiet computer and this card is driving me nuts!!!

Thanks in advance guys!

To be honest, the 8800GT isn't quiet at all... At 100%, you will kill yourself. That's why I decided to get a aftermarket cooler.

This, it might accually be going at 33% lol. My 8800gt was about 2x as loud at 100% then my 6870 at 100%

The Alpha dog was the reason that water cooling became so popular, for its time it smashed everything including noise levels.

It's really the first revision cooler for the 8800GT you're refering to, not just XFX's cooler.
Yes, the rev.1 8800GT at 100% will make you want to poke your eyes out and scream and beg for mercy. It's probably your drivers, with certain drivers you can lose fan control (or it can malfunction). Have you tried a different driver yet? I know I've had problems with certain drivers in the past, adjusting the fan speed to 100% wouldn't actually be 100%. It was obvious because of the noise level.

Yeah but I don't remember it being this loud in my other system. And how come the fan speed doesn't adjust between load and rest?

Why not configure it in Afterburner?

I can't hear my 8800GT at 33%. It becomes annoying after 40% because the pitch is higher frequency. After 50% you start wondering when it'll stop. Beyond 65% you begin to think it's going to explode. At 100% the world explodes.

If that is the case check the drive then if that didn't work try tuning it out on afterburner, but be careful you don't want to turn it down too much and melt the GPU.

I did. Afterburner, nTune and RivaTuner. None of them have any effect.

It's like it's locked at max.
