Corsair A50 - noisy? Other fan suggestions?

I need a good cooler for a i5 2300/2400/2500, the CPU I buy depends on the money I have. Anyway I've read some reviews and the Corsair A50 seems great, I can find it for 23€.

The only problem is that it has a 3-pin connector which means it's not PWM. It can spin at 2000RPM or 16000RPM with a noise reduction wire.
For comparison I have only my Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro which at 1600RPM is very noisy. What do you guys think?

Here is a list of other coolers (site in italian, but you should be able to navigate through it). I would like to spend the least possible so that I can get an i5 2500 (I'm on a tight budget). Also, if I have extra money I would like to get as RAM the G.Skill Ripjaws, so I think that big coolers will not be compatible because of their height.

Last, how should I apply the termal paste since it has direct contact with the heatpipes? I usually put a dot at the center of the CPU.

I have an A50 and it is not loud.. I wouldn't call it quiet either. But I can fall asleep with it running. About the thermal paste... that depends on your cpu.

Thanks for the answer.
I still am not sure though, for you it could be OK but for me it could be loud.
I found the noise measurements for my cooler and the Corsair A50, unfortunately they have a different unit of measurement:
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - 0.9 Sone
Corsair A50 - 26 - 31.5 dBA

So which is louder? =/
Searched a little and it seems that 0.9 Sone is about 28-30 dBA, so the sound should be the same. Are their other people who have tried the Corsair A50?

Keep the A50 and just replace the fan with something more quiet, preferably pwm controlled

I have the exact same issue. Problem is, i already ordered it and now i wish it were pwm. By looking at the pics, i believe the stock fan could easily be removed from the snap-on shroud and replaced with an aftermarket (possibly quieter) pwm fan.

My question is, which fan would be a good option? Assuming that a stock 120mm fan will work, what are your suggestions on a quiet yet effective fan with a pwm connector?
Do cfm's matter since it is dealing with the obstuctive heat fins of the heatsink??

I decided to buy the Arctic Freezer XTREME Rev. 2, sorry I can't help you.
