what effect on graphics does an oc have?

Thread Starter
im trying to solve an issue i have only since upgrading to win7,ive another thread about the problem already.

it seems to be a directx issue but is not there when i default bios settings and i am trying different settings but not having much joy.

btw pci has not been changed from default 100.

so the question is what could an oc bios effect graphics stability in the os?

edit: the system is prime and memset stable but when playing bc2 it will bsod with an oc bios but go for hours on default settings.

The only problem with relying on Prime and memset is that you're not reproducing the amount of heat inside your case that gaming does. Prime will torture the cpu, but the graphics card is practically sleeping. Taking a stab in the dark, I'd say that heat is causing your instability. When's the last time you've blown your fans off? Any dead ones? Do what you can to improve your airflow and it should help.

no the fans are clean and the graphics card is cleaned every 2 months.as i mentioned in my first post i am trying to figure what effect the oc is having compared to non oc bios.

there is the same file coming up thats causing or having a problem when oc"d and its a dxmmgs.dll i am going to over write it with an older version and see if it cures it.

Like overclocking you CPU, overclocking your GPU will also cause instability. Run Furmark and tell us what happens.

update

well i ran furmark and it ran fine but i was still getting errors.
i took this screenshot so i decided to reinstall my os with no oc and its fine now.

this system has been fully stable for a year now but something is failing so i will have to try again and maybe not push so far as before.

thanks for the help and ill post this in my other thread.
