Intel stock coolers are horrible.

Melee is correct, the stock cooler under load using prime95 you will hit around 75-80c and that is with a case that has great air flow. I used the stock cooler for a very short amount of time.

NOTE: My room is very cool and my case has very good air flow.

Thanks! I'm happy to hear it can handle 4.5 easily because that is what I was aiming for. biggrin.gif

Are you using it with a single fan or dual fans in push/pull? I'm still debating on what fans to use for it.

The stock cooler is definitely disappointing. As much money as Intel makes, you would think they would invest a little more into them. AMD's stock coolers are excellent. It's no big deal to spend an extra $25 on the Hyper though so it's whatever. smile.gif I'm just trying to figure out my fan setup now. lol

My final question is does the Hyper have any clearance issues with RAM? I have Ripjaws X Series which have heatspreaders but they are slanted and not that tall. I just want to make sure it's not going to cover like 2 of my DIMM slots or anything like that. smile.gif

Thanks!

I would appreciate an answer to that last question as well. I'm ordering a 2500k, G-Skill Ripjaws, Hyper 212+, ASRock Extreme4 setup as soon as the boards become available. Would like to clarify if I will have any mounting issues.

Aiming for a 4.5 clock without much hassle.

Ofc you can hit 4.5 Ghz with the Intel stock cooler i just did, but previous i did plenty of research on what means every option on my motherboard, and what and where should i modify in terms of frequencies or voltages. I need to mention that i reached 4511Mhz with very ****y ambient temp, like 32c, don't have AC. As basic overclocking knowledge the sinthetic stress tests for CPU are as a MAX STRESS limit, so if your CPU is ok in there ...then nothing else can stress him that much and make him "crack" (fail , bsod , win crush). The problem with the Intel Stock cooler is that isn't made for overclocking so hes max capacity is 2500rmp. Now again some basic knowledge is that Prime95 brings your CPU to a great amount of heat by using non-stop 100% of all the cores. Ive heard that LinX brings your CPU even hotter. Anyway , but there is no real aplication instead of those sinthetic ones that will use your CPU 100% load. Ive done test before OC and at 3300 Mhz in prime95 my CPU was staying at 65-66c , but when i took it to 4000-4200 Mhz ...in prime was reaching 80c ...and at 4334mhz was reaching 85-86 and i stop the stress test so i dont damage my chip (also keep in mind that in my room is VERY hot , 32-33c will get AC soon).
In conclusion my CPU atm at 4511 Mhz and 1.35v is stable in EVERY aplications that doesn't torture test it ^_^ , with the cooler running to the max speed(2500rmp) and a 55-60c. Ive runned Cinebench,3DMark06,3DMark Vantage,3DMark11, SuperPi and Metro 2033 MAX Setting and all was OK!
