Multiple installs of a single game?

Is it possible to do this without one attempting to tear the other to pieces?

I want to try a total conversion mod I found for Oblivion... but I don't want to lose what I already have with my current install. Can I just install Oblivion again, on another drive, and TC that one?

Hello,

You can just install it to a different directory even on the same drive.

Then you will have to apply the mod manually or get a second mod manager as well.

Thanks

Dustin

How do I install a second Copy of Oblivion? Every time I run the installer it fires up the launcher, which sees that the game is already installed.

And If I run Setup manually, it asks if I'm trying to uninstall the game.

You could just copy/paste the main game folder to another spot, I think. Works with some games.

Dayum son, that's a 10Gb copy.

Trying now. About 120Mbps, just a few minutes.

No, it hasn't worked. It's just broken both installs completely.

Edit: scratch that, reseting the original's graphics settings fixed it.

As has been stated, separate install folders should work far as I recall, although, you mentioned you had some issues and had to copy the dvds onto the hard drive to bypass setup. I am presuming it worked as mentioned in your last post?

No. The original works now, but it was broken by originally making a dupe of it. The dupe was also broken.

I've also realized that both games would attempt to use the same save folder. Not only that, I'd have to completely disable one install to play the other, without issues. It's just too difficult.

Thanks anyhow.

hmm, the setup file must be looking at something in the registry or maybe the specific oblivion folder, etc.... to realize that you already have a copy installed. Maybe if it's possible to change what it points at(registry entry, etc....), then it'll allow an installation to another directory with a different save folder I would think, but, not sure how to do this if it's even possible

What's happening is that your Oblivion settings folder in My documents>my games is being used by both installations. To avoid this you'd need to make 2 settings folder and rename them each time you play.

Or you could make a second Windows account and play on each one.
