Okay, so i have 200$ the very tops to spend on a graphics card for my new rig which is my first one ever.

- specs -

motherboard -ASUS M4A78T-E Motherboard
CPU - MD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core CPU (3.2ghz)
memory - Corsair vengeance 8gb ddr3 1600mhz
-random asus disc drive
Hard drive -WD cavier 500gb
power source - ultra 750w power
OS - windows 7 64bit

well thats it so far for my computer.. but i still need to get a graphics card and cannot make up my mind.. I've considered the following as my potential purchases.. they're all radeon , 5870 (if i can get it for less than 200$), 5850, crossfire 5770's, 5830. Which should i pick and why? if none of those what do you think i should get?? thanks for the help.

(PS dont ask why i posted this in nvidia section..)

You can get a GTX 460 for extremely cheap these days. There are often deals for it close to $100, or even below. You could grab one, and save some money for a second a bit down the road.

I was considering that but i also want the best performance i can get for under 200$.. As long as its under 200$ i dont care about the price just the best performance ... Also, is it better to get ATI cards for AMD processors/Asus mother boards or will it be no problem to use a nvidia card with my specs?? and.. what is the difference between nvidia cards and AMD, whos better in your opinion.. Lol many questions but im very new to this and clueless.. i dont want to waste my money on a bad purchase!

Personally I would go with ATI, just for the fact if you ever wanna upgrade graphics in the future you can crossfire. There's a 5850 on new egg for under $200.

First of all dont crossfire/SLI unless your really need to or have a enough money to. your better off buying on decent card then waiting. i suggest a 6870 or a 6850 since the 5xxx series is being discontinued and the 6xxx are just new with the possibility of a 7xxx cards coming later. depending on your need and budget 6870 or 6850 is the way to go.

if you are a nvidia junkie then go with 460 but id personally recommend going with the ati option.

your welcome.

would you like me to move it to ATi for you?

in any event, i'd get a 6850 Toxic, which recieved best 6850 award from HardwareHeaven, and was well recommended by OCC and OC3D. it's $200, $185 AR.

alternatively you can buy a 460 1GB. EVGA's one comes with a $30 rebate, and the opportunity to step up to a 560 Ti or better, as well as Just Cause 2 and Mafia II. Should you wish to forgo step up, and want a better cooler and lower noise, you can get what i have - the 460 Hawk which is $200, and has a $10 rebate. thanks to the out of the box OC it tends to perform close to a 470

I wish you had $20 more for a 6870, but ah well.

your call - both sets will perform about as well as each other and will trade blows.

hope that helps

haha if you could move this to ATI section that would be great thanks. I think i might just go with the 5850 but if going with the 5870 for only 20$ more is better i might as well go with that i guess. When the 6xxx series comes out will the 5xxx series drop in price drastically? should i just wait till that comes out instead then?

Ends up $190 AMIR.

Really good deal tbh.

Or a 5850, or a 460 twin frozr or direct top.

I would still go with the 6870 tho.

EDIT: OP, what's your res?
4-year build.
