Core i5 661 cooling

Thread Starter
So, i've never used an aftermarket heatsink for my builds. I guess I just don't think about it's general temp. If it's not shutting off then it's not overheating right... well, I decided to run a temp monitor program and Prime95. Idle temp was 32 c, but within 60 seconds of running the Prime95 my temp was at 104+ it was 1 away from tjmax and so I panicked and stopped Prime95. I was looking at water cooling for noobs and came across an interesting product, CoolIt closed loop water cooling. Any feedback/suggestions?

***. that's dangerous dude.

Buy one. If you dont plan on spending much.

Buy a Coolermaster Hyper 212+. It's the best bang for your buck heatsink

avoid it like the plague. coolit products are garbage. i suggest you go with a high end air cooler like the noctua nh d14 or the thermalright silver arrow. just make sure you can fit them in your case first.

if you have your heart set on liquid cooling, the best kit to get these days is the xspc rasa 750 rs240 kit. at $129.99 and everything you need it is hard to beat. here is link: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11743/ex-wat-159/XSPC_Rasa_750_RS240_Universal_CPU_Water_Cooling_Kit_Hot_Item.html?tl=g30c83s137

i own this same kit. its hard to install as the directions included only tell you how to install the water block. everything else you are on your on. but i got the hang of it.

before installing a kit like this watch as many videos on youtube about liquid cooling installation as possible. and make sure you have 6 hours of time to complete the task. first time always takes for ever.

That looks complicated and like something I'd end up with water leaking from and destroying my system... although, I had thought about that type of a system cause i'm also considering getting the new NZXT phantom case. I'm also a bit nervous about getting oversized and loud cpu cooling solutions oversized because I'd like to utilize all my Ram slots and I have no idea what the clearance is, and loud, well that's obvious.

well the noctua is neither loud or intrusive to the ram slots. fans are almost silent, and if it does touch a dimm the front fan can be move up a couple cm to compensate.

but if you dont want to spend alot of money, id have to agree with previous poster and say go with a cooler master hyper 212+ or a scythe mugen 2

The stock cooler should not do that.

i give it a 60% chance that the cooler is not mounted properly, and a 39% chance that the fan is broken

I'll be honest the last Asus mobo I had my cpu almost gracefully dangled from it's mounts, for some reason either my fear of breaking the board so I don't push hard enough or for a general design flaw. I'd say this is likely. When I saw the rapid ascent to 105C I freaked.headscratch.gif Suppose I could take the time to shut the system down and check it's security to the mobo.

yea, for the stock cooler, you have to push pretty hard.

Just wait until you hear the click
