Use 2 Different Graphics Cards (not SLI) Possible?

Thread Starter
I currently have a Asus P5N-D Motherboard, which support SLI. However I don't intend to use SLI due to my need for multiple monitors. I currently am using an EVGA 8800 GTS 512(Overclocked Edition). I think it may be time to pick up a new graphics card and am considering picking up an EVGA GTX 580, or some similar model. Still looking over reviews.

Anyway with my EVGA 8800, it has 2 DVI and a Component Out. I use the 2 DVI's for my monitors and the Component Out for the TV. Obviously i have to disable a monitor when i use the component out, but thats fine. My TV doesn't have HDMI.

The new graphics cards (especially the nice new ones) all seem to have 2 DVI which is awesome, but a mini-HDMI port, that converts to regular HDMI. I can't seem to find a converter online to switch from HDMI to component, that isn't a $50+ box.

If I were to at least temporarily plugin both the GTX 580 (or whatever) and the 8800gts. Would I be able to use the dual monitors on the GTX 580, and still use the Component Out on the other card when needed, or would this cause conflicts. Obviously I could swap cards when needed, but that sounds very frustrating.

So in summary can I use a GTX 580 and 8800gts both NVIDIA (not SLIed) to use the dual monitors, and still be able to use the component hook up for the TV.

Thanks,

Blake

Yes you can get images out of both graphic cards at the same time from any output

BTW DVI and HDMI convert seamlessly (No loss in quality since they are electronically the same)

So you will be better off converting the signal that way

Awesome, that is great to hear. Thanks for the link for DVI to HDMI, however the TV I have doesn't have HDMI or DVI, it only has component, and old RCA's. It was one of the last tvs with 1080i without HDMI.

Thanks again!

With No DVI or HDMI?

That is very odd.

What about VGA?

Nope no VGA either. The TV is a Rear Projection. Mitsubishi HD1080 series, model WS-55805.

I can do 720p, and 1080i.

Depends on budget and usage, 560 through 580 if you are into nvidia.
If you are using windows 7, you can use both nvidia and amd cards.
