Urgent Help Needed - Asus Rampage Gene II

Hi, I think my motherboards dead but need someone to help diagnose before I pull the trigger on a new board.

Last night I was working on some video recoding and left the PC running whilst I went to watch a film. I came back to find it shut down.

Thinking I must have left the 'shutdown after completion' setting on, I tried to to start it up - nothing. The start and reset lights on the motherboard itself were lit so I tried those, again nothing. The PSU wouldnt even start let alone POST.

So I then started the usual diagnostic process. To date this is a summary of what I've done:

Tried different PSU's
Tried different a graphics card, without a graphics card.
Tried booting with memory in, different combinations of sticks, no sticks at all
Tried clearing CMOS, leaving out the CMOS battery, replacing the CMOS battery
Tried starting the PSU using the green and black pin and a paperclip combination

Having tried all that, I had a little bit of progress (kinda). There was a very small crackle and a slight smell of burning and then on restart everything spins up. The watercooling pump starts, the graphics card starts powering up etc but still no output or signs of life from the motherboard. It just seems to be allowing the current to pass through it.

The board has a number of diagnostic LED's on that normally flash during any activity of the memory, processor or hard drive. None of these light up with the exception of one, the hard drive light which remains on at all times. No activity from the memory or processor lights.

I can only now think of going down the replacement route with the motherboard looking the most likely candidate before moving on to the processor.

Anyone else any ideas?

if you've tried all that and to no avail--I would honestly just RMA it to save the headache

Yeah, thats what Im thinking too. The only thing is that I need a PC immediately so Im going to have to buy another board to get the PC up and running ASAP. Didnt really want to have to buy another 1366 board though as Im likely to upgrade to the sandy bridge i7 towards the end of the year.

The other thing is that the board is about 18months old which means a RMA to Asus rather than the store which will take time.
