Sold 2x 460 for 480 good move?

Thread Starter
Seen as though I got a 460 free from a friend for my birthday, and I can get the Asus gtx 480 for only 195GBP free delivery, is that a good move?
The main reason i sold them was that I use high AA in games and 1024mb memory would not of last long in the upcoming games as they can only get more memory demanding.
Also is a Antec TP 750W capable of running gtx 480 in sli or would I require a new psu?
Thx
My System

No. 2 x 460's are faster in SLI than a single 480. At 1080p, I doubt you'd go over 1.5GB of total usage in 90% of games, or even get anywhere near it.

Nope, 2 GTX 460's is slightly more powerful than a 480, however if you play games that have terrible SLI scaling I guess you could see a performance increase in some places.
SLI 460s are more powerful than a single 480. But if you plan to SLI 480s then 195 bucks for one isn't a bad price at all.

As for the PSU, I don't know. The 480 has the highest power consumption of the 400/500 series doesn't it? I would think 750 should be enough but 850 would be a safer bet.

GTX 480. Less cards = less heat, less power consumption, less noise, less driver issues = less problems

I disagree, two GTX460's are about as fast as a GTX480. You'd benefit from only having one card in your system, as well.

If anything, upgrading to two GTX560's would be smarter as it would be ever-so-slightly faster and uses less power.

That's just me, though.

I have just upgraded to GTX480 and this card is GREAT..(from HD4850 though)..

That's a good deal there..

Your PSU can handle 2x GTX480 as it has around 55A combined on the rails (under 100% load and 83% efficiency)..

And your PSU can even output up to 900W (with 79% efficiency) overall and pure 750W on 12+ rails of power even it's only rated to 750W(overall)..

>>CHECK THIS REVIEW..

CHEERS..

Guys its common knowledge that 2 460s are about equal to a 580 but slightly better in most cases. Going 480 was a bad move in my oppinion.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2118943

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/...s_460_1gb_sli/

I made the decision on 2 hawks over a 480.

The 480 is awesome but its going to cost you more down the road if you sli it. Im sure even an i7 @ 4GHz is going to be a bottleneck, aswell as 8x 8x.
