Sold 2x 460 for 480 good move? - Page 3

I would have chosen a 580 over a 480 myself (less heat and power usage), but to each his own. If it makes you happy...

580 uses more power than the 480, and it produces more heat, it just has a better factory heat sink... It's also $200 or more over what he's paying for the 480.

I very recently went from a gtx 460 sli to a single gtx570 (which is about as fast as a 480) and I'm happy I did. It just simplifies things greatly. I had very few issues with sli, but the issues I did have are all long gone now. It's more than fast enough too to run any game at 1080 p at max or close to max settings.

Water cooling? That's a lot of extra cash to spend for less performance than he had before. If his goal is to eventually SLI 480s it might make sense... but otherwise

I have no idea what his pricing is... But back in the day the gtx 460's were $200+ and the gtx 480 was $500+

Now the gtx 460's are still around $200 and the gtx 480 is around $300.

The gtx 460's made a lot more sense when they were priced better compared to the 470/480 but I got my 470 for less than $200 new. I'd say the days of the gtx 460 being the "one card" are pretty much numbered, it no longer has the big price advantage, two gtx 460's can cost $100 more than a single 480 now.

Prices fluctuate but I got mine for $160 each ~ a month ago (and the 2nd one came bundled with freebies). The only way someone's paying 100 more for a set of 460s is if they don't bother shopping around.

Well, you won't have problems with SLi.

bad move

GTX460 in SLI ar much stronger then a single GTX480 even if they run out of memory

the GTX460 768MB SLI is stronger then GTX580 then the 1GB version dont even see it... and down upgrading to a 480 :O at list if it was a 580... and the hit... the 460 are much cooler... :\\

The main reason i sold them was that I use high AA in games and 1024mb memory would not of last long in the upcoming games as they can only get more memory demanding.
Also is a Antec TP 750W capable of running gtx 480 in sli or would I require a new psu?
Thx
is it just me or is everyone completely missing the point that hes going gtx480 SLI?
200GBP for going gtx460 sli to gtx480 sli is pretty good i guess
