Shogun 2 Total War Expectations

Thread Starter
Ok next month we will be facing a true game that will take our rigs to its best (at least that is what i think). Will it be a CPU-Hog or a GPU-Hog, will Radeon 6970 and Geforce 580 get +60fps? As it isnt released yet we can only speculate about it.

AFAIK, the maximum troops displayed on a single battle is way higher than any total war games, up to 56k. That and the incredible graphics i saw in the videos could be quite challenging even for today rigs.

This could be a game that stresses (its spelled like that?) our gpu and cpu to its max on a full battle 1920x1080+ resolution and full AA,AF. Hopely this game should take advantage of SLI and Crossfire and be nicely optimized. All this thinking positive.

Here are the game minimum and recommended settings (you can also check in systems requirement labs "you can run it?"):

Minimum Specs
2 GHz Intel Dual Core processor / 2.6 GHz Intel Single Core processor , or AMD equivalent (with SSE2)
1GB RAM (XP), 2GB RAM (Vista / Windows7)
256 MB DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card (shader model 3)
1024×768 minimum screen resolution
20GB free hard disk space

Recommended Specs
2nd Generation Intel® Core™i5 processor (or greater), or AMD equivalent
2GB RAM (XP), 4GB RAM (Vista / Windows7)
AMD Radeon HD 5000 and 6000 or Nvidia GT 240 series graphics cards or equivalent DirectX 11 compatible graphics card
1280×1024 minimum screen resolution
20GB free hard disk space

The recommended specs are very high, knowing that for running well the game we always need a bit more than recommended (ask crysis).

So guys, tell me your opinion

it looks pretty good. I'm expecting at least over 100 fps @ 1920x1200 with max aa and such. Shouldn't be that demanding of a game. The only reason such a cpu is recommended is due to the fact that the cpu does all of the calculations of the troops. This will make overclocks very important, just like in CIV V where you can literally take seconds off of the time of a turn by cranking up from stock to 4.0

Can't wait for this; a long-overdue makeover to the game that (kind-of) rocked a genre.

56k troops! O_O

I dont think you should upgrade . I also have very fond memories of the shogun, when i discovered about shogun 2 i ran to my garage to find my shogun 1 cd and i tried to play but i got stuttering and lag, probably compatibility problems

i dont know, i never run a total war like empire or napoleon at too high fps on max, not even medieval on max (we're considering total max, with aa and af) but if its about cpu, then core i7 2600k im getting will be perfect for me

my expectations are extremely low.

All the total war games have been incredibly broken at launch, and the modding community tuned them up. Then they locked down the files and ruined modding. I havent bought a total war since, and wont.

I trust CA have learnt from these games. This will be a deal breaker for me. If Shogun 2 is rubbish, Ill not be wasting anymore money on their games. So I hope its reeeaally great!

HIGH?

That is pretty low to be honest. The CPU is probably kind of high but everyone on this forum probably has at least an i5 (unless by 2nd generation they mean sandy bridge :?).

duddeee its gonna be sweeeeeeetttt. Unluckily though until i can get money to buy a GTX i can only put a bunch of troops on the battlefield but no full 1080 gameplay +AF and other things... Anyone spare some change?
