Lol at the pulp fiction quote

But it obvioudly wasnt the voltage that did it...

More like the powerdraw. This burnout only happened because the powerlimiter was disabled.
The poor VR cooling on the AXP also probably didn't help either !!

Moral of the story IMO is don't use stress tests like OCCT and Furmark which make the card operate outside the normal power draw a game would put on your card.

Well even simpler moral is...

Dont disable the power limiter !!!!!

I had my card watercooled with the DDGTX580... so heat wasn't an issue, they just couldn't take the excess power . It was drawing upwards of 100amps according to GPU-z during OCCT, during Heaven 2.1 the most it would draw was about 71 overclocked.

Check out my thread over at XS. You'll see the count is now up to seven.

ahh I see, so i guess i'll go easy on my AXP that ive been bashing for VR cooling then !!!

I've just been looking over my power usage readings I made with my new powermeter...
These are total system watts at the socket.

CPU idle/ GPU idle (2d mode) = ~125w
CPU idle/ GPU idle (3d low mode)= ~136w
CPU idle/ GPU idle (3d perf mode) = ~186w

Power limiter on
CPU idle/ GPU load (3d perf mode) = ~340-380w (loaded with OCCT gpu)
Power limiter off
CPU idle / GPU load (3d perf mode) = ~480-525w (loaded with OCCT gpu)

I'm assuming the CPU was still idleing in the GPU stress test, or using little power if not. (note CPU load / Gpu idle (2d mode) uses ~ 280-300w)

So this means that in OCCT with limiter on, the card alone was pulling approx 215-265w
In OCCT with limiter off, the card alone was pulling approx 355-400w

Insane !! Hope I didn't destroy anything else !!!

I'll find out 2mrw when my 580 arrives...... wonder how much juice that will use........ only joking

Hopefully my RMA goes through... if it doesn't I'll probably try to replace the vrms myself, if that doesn't work, get a 580. Kind of ridiculous that it burned out with just a software modification...
