I see you have a 650 watt psu. it just came up to me that if your card was pulling over 500 watts alone(as others have tested) maybe psu went out of spec and spiked or something similar happend? i dont know for sure just trying to find out

I was actually thinking that too, and I haven't taken the card out of the PC to replace the stock cooler yet, so I will find out for sure when I do that today. I will take pictures to post on here. I am assuming the card is dead though because bios beeps 8 times and that indicates a dead video card. I hear the one beep post afterwards too. I also smelt something burning too .

Yikes...

xxBassplayerxx, in your opinion (you seem to know alot about this hehehe) are the 580's just as likely to have this issue/problem/limitation (whatever it its)

I see in your prvious post you alluded to the 570 not having enough power phases, does this mean 580 may fair better with OCP disabled ? (or no as its jst relative as they draw more power anyway)

does the 580 have the same problem ???

or the 2 extra push power can handle higher volts ???

did anyone tested it on a 580 ?... on a 570 seem it not a good move to overvolt it, I wouldnt go over 1.05...

I definitely wouldn't chance disabling the protection on a $500 card after knowing this can happen to its little brother .

The 580 has 50% more power phases.

Also, I believe I was the first to put a 570 subzero (there are no submissions on HWBot with anything other than air and water).

There have been tons of submissions with a 580 subzero, all of which would have had OCP removed and running ~1.35V+.

Obviously you shouldn't give this type of voltage, but at least we know the VRM's can handle it, given proper cooling.

I made a thread to collect information on exactly what is happening. Check it out and fill in your information if possible:

Good to know, maybe I'll end up getting a 580 anyway.

I don't normally post on here but somehow I had to share my experience because a similar scenario happened to me.

Was on 1.1v at 910/2100 and it passed furmark/occt and when I finally tried unigine my system just went off by itself. When tried to reboot, nothing happens. I took everything off to be safe and re-assembled all the components but the system still refuse to boot. I swear I tried at least 10 times to boot it up and I gave up eventually. I swapped my old card back in and my system was back on.

I brought my card to a local distributor the next day for testing it and god I am lucky I waited at the lounge while they tested my card to see what went wrong and the technician reappeared after a good 20mins and handed me a new card because he told me when he tried to boot my card up it went up in flames and now after seeing this thread.. I think I was pretty lucky it didn't went boom on me when I tried to boot it from my home. * I would probably have alot to explain to the distributor if that happend *

Since then I have decided to just stick to my stock 570 just so I don't have it die on me again or worst goes up in flame.

Btw, it was a MSI 570 OC Edition Twin Froz and no the power limiter wasn't disabled. Nothing was.
