New mat

Thread Starter
Recently, I noticed a serious flaw with my puretrak talent, consisting of it having a certain "dead zone" At which the tracking screws up and becomes uneven.

It could occur due to the uneven hexagonal pattern of the mat.

I may be looking for a new pad, the preferred properties of it are:

Very large, atleast as large as the talent

having the surface in a single uninterrupted color, due to me being suspicious of patterns.

Everything else is very flexible.

What mouse do you use? I've never had this problem, been using the puretrak talent for over a year.

There is nothing wrong with the hexagonal pattern of the mat, in fact that actually helps with tracking of older mice (and I mean older). Newer mice use a different method for tracking and the surface color pattern or design is really negligible. The surface texture is a different matter though. It would appear to me that since the Puretrak's pattern is uniform throughout, that it has more to do with an area of the pad that has been damaged/worn/greased up in some way that is causing it to lose tracking. I would reccomend you a pad which is not quite as large as the Talent but if you are adamant about that size, I would try the CM Storm CS-X pad as it is definitely uniform. It is also more slick than the Talent so I don't know if you would like that or not.

I am using a Deathadder.

I am concerned about the size because I am mainly interested in experimenting with particularly low sensitivities.

The difficulty does appear to be nonexistent when I play with more "standard" sensitivities.

I am talking about playing with settings around 26 degrees per inch.

Another possible thing, perhaps it is occurring due to exceeding the USB port's maximum capacity? Would purchasing a faster USB card such as this one: link be a good idea? I do realize that it is somewhat unlikely though.

I've used the DeathAdder extensively on the Puretrak Talent (for atleast 4-5 months) at all various sensitivities and never had issues with losing tracking. Could you be more specific on whether this occurs while moving the mouse at high speeds or if its just random? However, upgrading to 3.0 is not going to do anything for your mouse responsiveness. All that matters is the polling rate and normal 2.0 handles that just fine.

It usually occurs when I move the mouse in a rapid manner and then immediately move it in a different direction. The occurrence is rather randomized, there are really no ways of predicting when exactly it is going to happen, it is more of a randomized statistic type of thing.

It could technically be a good idea to record it, even though I am not certain of the best way to do so.

Again, the whole thing could occur due to the mat, I am not fully certain.

For example, how much influence could a random mat defect such as a standing thread or a bump bring to tracking?

Could you tell me how low did you go sensitivity wise in the sense of approximate degrees per inch?

If you're using a Deathadder 3.5G, thats a common problem with them, they lose tracking at high speeds. I have one and have read other people having the same problem. I also have a PureTrak Talent funny enough.
