GPU Upgrade: 9800gtx to 260gtx or 460gtx

Thread Starter
Hi, I just got a used computer with a 9800gtx and I was wondering if its worth it to upgrade to a Evga 260gtx 216core for $100 or save up to buy an evga 460gtx (around $200)... I was also thinking of trying to sell the 9800gtx for $75-100 and add the extra $100 for the 460gtx... or just keep the 9800gtx...

Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance

Go for the GTX460. But I would upgrade to Windows 7 to get the full benefit. What resolution and games are you running?

if you have the money, sure go for a 460, i reckon it will be worth it.

but, if you are satisfied with your current gpu just keep it for now untill you have enough money for gtx 460 or better.

I usually just play FPS games (mainly Call Of Duty 2 and Left 4 Dead 2) and mostly video editing... I usually set my resolution at max (1200 x 1024, I think) with no AA...

I would go GTX460, its more future proof. You'll be more satisfied with the upgrade.

You should be able to find either of those cards for cheaper than what you've listed.

GTX 460 is almost 2 GTX 260's

and you will get around $60 tops for that 9800GTX because GTX 260's sell used for around $80-$90

Considering the GTX460 is already being phased out, you should get that or something better. I understand GTX470's are going for a little over $200USD now?

Without Win Vista or 7 you won't be able to take advantage of DX11, which is a big selling point for the 400 series...

A 260 however isn't actually a huge step up from a 9800GTX (the GTS250 was actually just a rebranded 9800GTX IIRC and was marginally slower than the 260).

IMO, if you can afford it, go for Win 7 and a 460.

You have thos backwards. The 560 Ti is actually taking the 470s place in the nVidia line-up. The 460 is in a completely different price bracket (and actually is their best selling card atm).
